Good place for a drink but avoid eating.
I write this based on a recent visit but I've had 2 similar experiences. 6 of us arrived, ordered drinks and sat down, the pub was quiet for a bank holiday and very few were eating. Good job because there was only the manager and 1 member of staff managing drinks, food and hotel check in's/outs.
We used the app to order food and found many items unavailable (not unusual in a lot of places at the moment) but after ordering, the bar staff informed us some of our order was also out of stock so we adjusted accordingly.
90 minutes then passed before some of the order and sides arrived, we waited a couple of minutes for the rest but it didn't arrive so we started. By the time the other meals reached the table the sides ordered to accompany those meals had gone cold and we asked for replacements. The rare steak came out like old boot leather so this was sent back. New sides arrived pretty quickly but by the time the new steak arrived, everyone else had already finished their meals.
A very poor eating experience and one I won't look to repeat.
That said, the barstaff are friendly and it's a good atmosphere to have a drink. I'll just eat at home or...
Read moreI went here to meet a friend for a birthday meal. The bar area is a little dark but there was a pleasant welcome and the staff were charming and friendly. We sat in the beer garden to eat. I noted that there's a big sign saying dog friendly. It was certainly family friendly too which was very nice to see. There was an app for ordering from ones phone which I found a little impersonal. However my young friend did the ordering and we both chose the Cajun salmon. Often salmon is either slightly too undercooked or dry. This was not. It was fresh and cooked to perfection with just the right amount of spice to lift the flavour without overpowering the fish. The hint of garlic and the bed of beautifully cooked peppers, onions, and courgettes complimented it beautifully. The accompanying sweet potato fries were crisp, light and very tasty. The apple and blackberry crumble I had for dessert was tart and refreshing with a delicious sweet buttery crumble topping with ice-cream and a little jug of custard. The portion sizes are generous and the prices extremely reasonable. The only downside was I was too full to finish the crumble. I can...
Read moreBooked 2 weeks in advance for some business guess. They arrived on a Sunday and were barred from checking in saying they had to pay for their entire 13 day stay in advance. There was no information of this at time of booking. The check in clerk said it is in the terms and conditions of the hotel. When reading it we found in fine print that if a room costs over £1000 it has to be paid in advance. The average for each room was just over £900. There was not even an attempt to solve this. We were told that if wanted to pay for them we would have to fill in a form which would be sent by email, and then someone from Head office had to approve the card. This would take hours, with our guests waiting at reception. I ended up having to drive there from home to pay for the stay. This is the worst booking service I've experienced in over 20 years of business traveling. On top of that, the guests complained the rooms are small and stuffy, badly insulated and uncomfortable. We will never do business with Innkeeper's...
