Just popped in for a drink. The second time I went to the bar after asking for the drinks the server started talking to a 'regular' and made no further effort to look or talk to me and just shoved the payment machine on the bar. The gents hand dryer was broken and no paper towels left. Table layout is poor leaving very little space. Overall we formed the impression that if you're not a regular then it's not worth their effort. We won't be going back.

Excellent 'proper' pub with excellent home cooked food. Generous portions and fabulous service as well. Landlord a gent, we were a large table booked for my dad's birthday and the place and people were just perfect. We had a range of dishes...all excellent. Hope to head back for an evening visit and work through the excellent selection of ales.

Had lunch on Tuesday. We had the mint lamb shank and steak and ale pie. Both were superb, the steak pie was not only huge but the meat was so tender and very tasty. The young lady who served us was also excellent and very helpful as my wife has a nut allergy. Very good experience all round.

Went here and have heard lots of good things. However.... After an entire evening here with my husband cousin and her husband. I was approached by who I think was the landlady. She accused me of being seen snorting coke in the ladies!!! We are all in our 50s and three of us laughed thinking it was a joke... However my cousin's husband was very angry! Landlady returned about half hour later with a vague apology...just said it wasn't me (uh huh I knew that). She said they had reviewed CCTV and it was someone else. I don't recall her being very apologetic or even embarrassed by her big error. Is there CCTV in the ladies? Is this allowed? And maybe an apology and a free drink would have encouraged us to return. Please staff... Have some sense when it comes to your clients and whether they will ever return or...

The moment we walked in we were welcomed by three smiley faces from behind the bar. The pub is very traditional and cosy. The bar staff are very quick and knowledgeable. Utilising the latest technology to assist with their POS. The restaurant area is cosy and has a nice family restaurant vibe. I order the southern fried chicken burger. It came quickly. It was piping hot and excellently succulent. Fries, hot and crispy. Salad and slaw fresh. Slaw is the best I've ever had. The food was amazing and better than could have been expected. Staff were friendly and attendable. Draught Strongbow was great. The taste proved they were skilled and constant with their line cleaning. Couldn't have asked for more on my visit. When visiting Emsworth again, I will definitely consider The Coal Exchange within my...

A real gem this pub, 1st off those driving public car park at the rear. This is your typical olde worlde pub. All way busy and crammed... but welcoming, I’d say this is because it’s warm in the winter with the log fire. And naturally busy in the summer due to its size and popularity. It’s dog friendly , small garden at the rear. Food is available, heard great things about the curry nights. Live bands is always fun. Staff normally are spot on with no attitude polite and efficient. Only thing that slightly lets it down is the toilet is small and out dated. But it works with the place. Overall I do like coming to this pub nothing...
