Steer clear if you have dietary preferences - or if the cafe is β€˜busy’. Arrived after 11am for breakfast (stated on menu as available until 12pm on Saturdays) and was unable to order by 3 different waiting staff & manager/owner who said the kitchen was busy and they’d have to check with the kitchen. None of these staff actually returned with a verdict on us being able to order! Eventually the owner arrived & was unapologetic. She said we could order breakfast - hooray - but sadly I’m gluten free & vegetarian so my request to remove items from my order which I couldn’t eat was met with a less than warm response. Simply I was an inconvenience & it wasn’t possible. We decided to leave & just pay for coffees (which was lovely) - upon entering cafe we were behind another unhappy customer - also gluten free - who was told if they weren’t medically allergic then it was just a choice and they couldn’t accommodate their request. I’m not a coeliac but I am medically intolerant & find these comments inappropriate. Needless to say we won’t return & miss the previous cafe which was so friendly & catered to all happily. I rarely leave reviews & have no reason to lie. This is a true representation of our visit & the response from owner is insulting to my integrity. Being gluten free is often treated like an inconvenience & I’m tired of keeping quiet. I didn’t build my own breakfast. I simply tried to order from a business who couldn’t cope with a few tables ordering food at same time & me being gluten free was made very clear to be annoying. The food looked nice but we never got as far...

Adding to my previous review from 2023 Back in the area once more so stopped off for refreshments. We wanted to sit inside so two tables were pushed together for us to sit as a party of 4. Perfect. I ordered two teas, two cokes and two different cake slices. All lovely and delivered to the table. The staff were friendly and chatty and the venue was immaculate. The only thing I will say is that it is pricier at this venue than at other places I have visited.....but it's all swings and roundabouts. This venue is relaxing and extremely clean and everything was very fresh. I actually think the staff would go out of their way to help you (unless you want chips which they can't do as no fryer allowed πŸ™„πŸ˜‚) and it's nice to know that. You can pay a lot less elsewhere but sometimes you don't want to be squashed in, and in a loud environment. In this instance it is worth the money to have a relaxing break. Thankyou.

Passing by today we popped in here for a warming cuppa. The owner Steve was very welcoming...we didn't know he was the owner at the time. It was so, so clean and the decor was fantastic. A really lovely place and the staff were very friendly. We had a coffee and a cup of tea and both were served with little biscuits on the side. I also noticed they had an amazing array of homemade cakes on the counter, and a full and varied menu. They also offer a high tea which I read on a leaflet when I was sat at the table. I would definitely recommend this venue and will return again next time we are...

I was recommended to this place from a colleague so that to finish off my long weekend off from work I took my wife and parents along for a spot of lunch. As we arrived it started to rain and was lucky enough to get a table inside. As we walked in we got a big hello and smile from all the staff behind the counter under a great black and white photo of the Emsworth mill pond. We found a table for 4 and grabbed a clean not sticky menu card. The menu had the right amount food to choose from for breakfast and lunch plus two small blackboard with the days specials on. We arrived at 1.30 so went straight for the lunch. My wife is a serious Celiac sufferer so any wrong ingredients or cross contamination then she is very poorly. My wife went to the counter to ask what on the menu they could do for her? Gemma the owner advised that the whole menu can be adapted to suit her needs. So she went for the gluten free sour dough bread cross Ruben sandwich. As this was toasted Gemma asked if it was ok to use the same toaster. My wife said no please don't. Which wasn't a problem. It was wonderful and different. The Food and drink arrived promptly and hot. We finished with a couple of nice coffee's and a gluten free cherry bakewell that couldn't be eaten at the time as she was so full up so it was boxed up and taken home. Steve and Gemma your staff do you proud and you have a little gem in the middle of Emsworth. We will definitely return...

Nice location Nice coffee. Would have had food but service was slow and disorganised so as drinks were finished we never ordered food. If it were the case that they 'were very busy' .... they obviously have too many tables out to be able to deal with. Found staff could do with smiling and try and look like they appreciate our custom Wouldn't go back also because the prices are quite steep. Will be using one of Emsworths other establishments in future. Edited 1 year on... As the owner replied to my review and challenged me to revisit.. I did. And to be honest...not much change. Apart from I did manage to get food this time and although the poached eggs were a little over done, to be fair it was very nice and well presented. But still had to wait. Quite a while to be fair. Was told I had to wait to order my food while ordering drinks but did manage to order food around 5 minutes later. But that took a while to appear and coffee was well finished by then. Staff still need to cheer up some. And it appeared they weren't particularly busy as pic will show. It does show that's it looks a nice place to be. Just as well as you may be in for a wait . (Note... empty coffee cup!..long gone)

Very strange experience, pretty sure I won't be repeating. We got there as they were just cakes and drinks, not a problem as that's all we wanted. Lots of staff around and not one single smile from anyone although when the owner/manager (I think) went behind the counter the smiles couldn't have been bigger. One waitress came to the table to ask, mid conversation, if we needed the loo, again deadpan face, we assumed they wanted to close and didn't want us there. She then tried to clear my plate away even though I hadn't finished and there were other customers in the cafe. I went to the loo, feeling a bit pressured and came back to the table and the waitress sort of pushed between myself and sister before I'd even sat down and tried to move my coffee cup, which I hadn't finished. Honestly, I'm so supportive of small local businesses but this place was dreadful, expensive and really not worth trying without the place doing some serious customer service training. I'll be sticking to the Driftwood.
