Not a good experience at all. This is one of our local pubs and we have had some really good meals here but in the last year it has deteriorated. We have visited on a few recent occasions and the service has been very lacking. On Thursday 19th December, my partner and I pre-booked a table for 6.30pm. I chose to have the Falafel Burger with triple cooked chips. The burger itself was very dry and the chickpeas very hard. The "triple cooked chips" were no more than ordinary frozen chips and were also very dry. I mentioned this to the waiter AND a member of the bar staff who both said they would speak to the chef. No one came back to us so I struggled to finish it as we were limited for time and couldn't wait any longer. My partner paid the bill but by then it was a completely different person serving so he knew nothing about it. We weren't in the mood to pursue it a third time so we then left. On another occasion, a friend and myself intended to take advantage of their afternoon offer of tea/coffee and cake but we were told there had been no cake delivered that day (that was at 2.30 in the afternoon)! These are simple things that could easily be addressed but the staff, although apologetic, seem disinterested and unwilling to offer alternatives or to do anything about them. We don't plan to...
Read moreVisited on a warm, sunny Saturday afternoon. The pub has an incredible amount of character, owing to it being a 17th century pub in the heart of Havant. Anyone visiting the area really owes it to themselves to visit! This historic building comes complete with authentic beams, low ceilings, a beautiful bar and the welcome, cosy addition of LED light strings to complement the area. The staff were lovely; very friendly and willing to chat. The toilets were pleasant-smelling and clean, if only a tad small, but that comes with the character of the building so it can't be helped!
This is a Fuller's pub, so the food offerings are a tad more refined than the average "pub grub", but not so much that they seem snobbish. I had one of the chef's specials - Scampi and chips - which was spot on in terms of temperature, taste and presentation. My partner was also very happy with his Chalcroft Farm beef burger. I can't so much comment on the drinks selection, as I am...
Read moreI really am not sure how I could have missed this little gem in Havant. On the evening before my visit I fancied a roast within walking distance of my home. The Old House at Home appeared in my search. The characterful charm of a 17th century 'inn' was one I could not refuse and my booking made I arrived 30mins early for my booking but was warmly welcomed by Keith and the team. The Roast menu was a great mix of options as well as the general pub food expected at a Fullers House. Keith and the team were extremely attentive and ensured this table for one was happy and fed and watered. The Duo Roast was excellent as was the Apple and Berry crumble again, flavoursome and tasty. I am thrilled to have found The Old House at Home and will become a regular for lunches, evening meals and delicious Sunday Roasts. Keith, thank you and the team for a delicious luncheon and...
