The Parchment Makers - JD Wetherspoon — Restaurant in Havant

This place is a far outcry from what it once was. The parchment makers now, in Havant, is abysmally bad. Went in for the 1st time in many years to have a bite to eat with my mum.

I went to order their "new" burger at about half 9 in the morning, they wouldn't make it, I went to order a drink, they didn't have the flavour I picked. My mum wanted a crumble and was expecting custard to be with it as standard, they don't do custard with crumble, she orders another desert, not even remotely close to what it should be and as a customer would expect. It spent us about 8 minutes to finally manage to order something after them having or refusing to do, certain food orders at that time. We sit down, after having to put our order in at the bar instead of a waiter coming over and noticed that there's no sauces and salt or anything on the table. Instead it's tucked in the corner of the restaurant where it's difficult to see.

We finally get our food. My large all at breakfast had basically everything wrong with it. You get 2 tiny pots of butter and expected to spread that on 4 slices of bread, the egg was undercooked, bacon tasted awful, beans had no sauce to it and the sausages were like cheap store bought food. I've ended up getting unwell from the food, I couldn't even order what I wanted and it's like your expected to do everything yourself.

As for the atmosphere, it retains the nice boaty feel and look to the place and it's always nice and cozy to be in however, that's all it has going for it.

I've worked as a food and beverage assistant and a restaurant should not have, this low of expectations for what they run. There should be waiters, chefs should be making main meals throughout the day, no where does it state that you can't order certain things at certain times of the day and there should always be condiments and what a person will need, on every table.

I would rather this place be shut down and have another restaurant take its place because they do not care about this place...

Very, very easily one of the worst Wetherspoon's out there (and I've been to scores of them!). Disgusting place and in need of a good clean/ refurb (especially the toilet corridor, carpets, paintwork etc). I arrived to a dirty table with empty sachets still on it and only four staff I saw on duty (including chef) for a busy bar and as a result, excruciatingly slow service. You can tell that the staff are not the most service minded and don't particularly care (compared to other Wetherspoons I've been to where most staff go out of their way to help). The food was horrible and the drink also arrived very late (to be fair, the young lad did apologise). They even 'ran out' of mayonnaise when I asked- hahaha, just to top off a terrible experience, I couldn't even make the food taste nicer (again, most spoons food is banging!!). Standards need to improve here as it's not up to scratch compared to other Wetherspoons pubs- I understand why I guess locals may not care (as much as me, a visitor) as other places nearby are are much more expensive due to location- no excuse though for poor customer service overall- it's a horrible place and the management need to get their act together...

Poor service, poor food, poor staff. Visited on a Sunday lunchtime in Havant (aug2019) Staff were rude when questioned politely about wrong drink & are uneducated about what wines they are pouring & they can’t be bothered to read labels. 3 meals came out instead of 4, when we asked a member of staff where the 4th one was they said they would go & check where it was but they didn’t do this, instead we watched staff member go off & clean tables. So we then asked again someone else only for them to go “oh yeah hang on a minute “ By the time it arrived all the rest of us had eaten ours. And we were given no apology whatsoever in fact nothing was said at all. There was definitely an attitude. All our meals looked like they couldn’t be bothered with part of it looking like it had been thrown together with old food off of someone else’s plate that maybe didn’t eat it. Left feeling really disappointed & have never experienced this in there before. Usually have had a good meal but this was disgusting. Bad customer service at its worst. Should be ashamed. Wouldn’t have written this...
