I really wanted this review to be great and rushing back to Smash and Wings. The owner (who I was honest about my thoughts with) was a nice guy, polite and listened to my response when asked if we enjoyed our visit. Below is a 3 point summary and some photos (worth 1000 words). If you don't want to read the essay below, I'd sum it up by saying, I wouldn't return and i'd sooner recomend other places to friends; Smoky Boys, Cheat Meals and Five Guys, I hoped for better.
If you're still reading here is why...
The Food. The beef burger was very tasty, lovely bun and beef tasted 'clean' (good thing). The size however, meant that it didn't last long. At 6oz, (a quarter pounder is 4oz) it left me wanting more, 2 more oz would have made a difference and at £8.50 felt more justified.
The chicken burger 'classy chick' unfortunately was a low light and didn't even get finished. If tasted rather rubber oven chicken than fresh and meaty chicken breast (photo) the photo also shows the rather pitiful cheese slice used. The owner did explain the process that they use and the freshness, but if true, the output was not worth effort.
'Skin on fries' were again tasty, in the way I also like home fried thin chips. Compared directly to skin on at five guys these have no skin in the game. The photo shows this I think.
Portion sizes, I'd echo what another lower review did, the portions aren't big! The 'skin on fries' as can be seen in the photo were certainly not the big portions mentioned in some other reviews. id go as far to say it felt like we were short changed here. The burgers as explained to us were 6oz for beef and didn't ask for chicken. The beef patties were indeed wafer-thin (photo) as explained to us, this is because they are 'smashed'. The chicken was big, though size was not the issue really.
29 minute wait time. We arrived and ordered and were the only ones in when we did. Payment taken at 20:21 food on table at 20:50. The wait would have been fine if the food had smashed it but it didn't I'm sad to say. Oh and yes we also had to get our own drink from the fridge and the water we asked for never came.
Final thoughts. If you have made it this far, thanks and well done. I'm all for supporting new and different business which this is. With nothing like it in easy reach of Bushey high street I was really excited to be a regular but I'd simply say if you're driving here id just drive a...
Read moreAccidentally stumbled across this place on the drive home. No expectations or recommendations.
Greeted by a friendly smile. Usually look at the menu/ settings before considering to dine or takeout. as it was quiet I dined in. Later did I know it was the wrong decision. The place Instantly felt cold. Can understand with the cost of living crisis but if a place is stripped back to bare brick. You need to consider insulation or decent heating system.
Food didn’t take too long. But considering the prices. One was expecting a little bit more than what was advertised. Had to ask for cutlery and serviettes.
Portions are considerably small especially the wings/bites. My fries were over cooked Smash beef was flat not as in size but in taste. It just didn’t do it for me. Wife’s chicken burger was semi decent slightly over cooked. Milkshake was nice.
The place was a mess, toilets were filthy. My wife couldn’t use it. Felt embarrassed when asked if everything was okay and how the food was.
Only thing decent about that night was the parking was free (round the corner) But felt disappointed overall. And possibly robbed.
I would come back but not...
Read moreLet me start by saying WOW! I was in Watford over the weekend visiting family. I looked online and luckily I found this and it caught my eye. The eat in area was immaculate and clean with a fresh feeling. I met the manager Haroon who was very welcoming and for me, the personal service he provides is what separates him above others in this industry.
As for the food, I am from Bradford where there is a takeaway on every corner. I can genuinely say the food here is amazing. I went for the ‘Original Smash Burger’ to keep things simple. I wasn’t disappointed. The bun was fresh and the two beef patties were cooked to perfection. I would genuinely say it was the best smashed burger I have ever ate. I ordered some fries with ‘skin on’ which were hot, fresh and had the perfect crisp.
For my sides I went for the BBQ wings which were full of flavour. They were fresh and the skin on the wings were crispy.
It’s a shame that I live over three hours away or else I would be here more often.
The food is great and the staff are very friendly. You guys have a gem...
