Absolutely dreadful. Staff flustered and 'chef ' arrogant and argumentative. Could only order from one menu or the other even when we offered to sit at different tables as we had guests. We had checked beforehand that we could order off both. I asked what if other people came in and ordered from the 2 menus so he grabbed the menu and told us we now couldn't order from that menu. The point of offering to sit at different tables was because we were told that each table could only order from one menu so that seemed a reasonable compromise.

Having read the response to my review I think it's rather cruel and mean to suggest I'm complaining because I'm on medication! Although I had a knee replacement two months ago and am still occasionally on crutches, for your information no I'm not on medication and had brought the crutches with me to help with the walk home up the hill.

All our party were very disappointed and annoyed at our reception but thankfully we were able to eat elsewhere in the village. Where, funnily enough, chatting to friends from the village, and recounting our experience to them and to others on our daily walk this morning, it seems that others have had a similar experience to ourselves. And! Shows how fast news travels in our lovely village ...... when we went elsewhere last night we were greeted with "We have two menus but you can only order off one if you sit at the same table!" They were joking and I don't know how the news had already spread.

We've lived in Hayfield for many years and are now retired here and always support new ventures but this one ..... I think not. So thank you for your kind invitation to return "when I'm better" as you put it! but there are enough excellent food outlets in the village to still give us a wide choice, even as pensioners. I just wished we'd talked to other...

UPDATE: The owner has responded, and it seems he doesn't understand his unacceptable behaviour, so I will explain. I understand one friend had eaten half a sandwich, and we apologise on her behalf. HOWEVER, you responded inappropriately to the situation by being incredibly rude, getting into our face, and glaring at us. This is not an appropriate response to YOUR customers. Even beforehand this experience, the server that took our order was very passive-aggressive and was very apparent about her dislike to us. Yes, I mentioned the fact we're not English (not race YOU brought this up in your response) because we clearly saw the difference in the service you gave to the other ENGLISH customers. We will happily never return to this Cafe, and I warn others to also not come, especially those who are young and not english as clearly this place is not professional and Ageist towards younger people (in his response he told my friend to "grow up"). I hope you find some peace in yourself because this much anger and hatred is unhealthy.

My friends and I decided to come to this cafe to have some tea and coffee, but unfortunately, the service here was atrocious. Never have I been talked to so rudely in a cafe. This place is not friendly, it seems for younger people, especially not for non English. Even started gossiping about us quite loudly and rudely when the space is quite small... would not recommend at all, hope they sort themselves out so much hatred, aka the workers, not sure if they are the owners or not, but one of them was an old guy...

I was blown away by this little gem! My Wife and two children and I were camping in Hayfield, and so not really dressed for a restaurant. Never the less, we were made to feel very welcome! My daughter had her heart set on a pizza but we were promptly informed that pizzas were not on the menu that night. However, the chef had some dough left over from a sourdough batch, and said he could make one and offered a selection of toppings. So accommodating! And my daughter loved her pizza, and they are very generous with the toppings! Unlike most other restaurants nowadays. I ordered a crab linguine…….SO good!👌🏻 Instead of a few flakes of crab thrown in and some salt and pepper to season like you might find in many other restaurants, THIS had plentiful chunks of crab meat, excellently seasoned with a delicious sauce and green chillies. Honestly the tastiest crab linguine I’ve eaten in a restaurant! My Wife ordered a carbonara and again, a simple dish but with such depth of flavour and lots of pancetta! Really excellent quality food, especially for such reasonable pricing! This restaurant is small and very unassuming from the outside, but do not be mistaken, it’s a little gem. Simple dishes cooked exceptionally well, in a warm and welcoming setting. The chefs and staff here really know what they’re doing and we will absolutely...

Highly recommend this lovely place. Dog friendly. We visited this little gem today with our puppy to escape the rainy weather. Felt most welcome, regardless of being soggy and wet. The food was absolutely delicious, homemade pizzas and tasty fries. We also had some pasties which we took away and these were absolutely delicious. My husband said that it was the best pasty he had ever eaten. Thank you 😊
