Recently refurbished and finding its feet , we , a party of 9 booked a table for 7.30 to eat . The furnishings , decoration and staff are all much improved . The pub was buzzing with a pretty good atmosphere , great selection of Gin and tonics. The food was trying to be fine dining style , with portion size being quite small and price being above average, tasty food but unfortunately it's a Pub, with a sports bar , people drinking at the bar while you eat it cant be described as anything else but a pub , with hungry clientele. At approx 9 pm a young singer , quite a good singer did a "turn" , We had finished our small meal , but then anyone still eating wouldn't be having any kind of conversation , well , because they wouldn't be able to hear each other as the singer was in the food seating area ? After food , most in our party were still hungry and a little disappointed and left , with everyone's verdict being "probably wont be back" .
In summary , a nicely refurbished pub , plenty of staff , good atmosphere , great selection of drinks , but if you are hungry go somewhere else . An eating pub that is a new and needs to find its identity , you cant be all things to everyone that comes in the...
Read moreHave just come back down to Essex after 2 fantastic weeks holiday in the Ribble valley with the family and inlaws and dogs in tow. The Park was our local only a 5 minute walk or 10 minute stagger depending on level of good ale supped inside. Evertytime we were welcomed in and made very comfortable by the owner and her young staff. The food was outstanding for a local pub and great value for money. Its lovely you can see the talented chef beavering away via a glass window into the kitchen . The menu covered for all tastes and we had been in for both the steak night special and Sunday lunch. I can honestly say it was the best Sunday roast I have had and as someone who had spent many years in whites myself I mean that. The dogs even got spoilt with fresh water and doggy treats everytime. The pub had a lovely atmosphere with both a food area and a saloon style bar for family's to enjoy drinks and even a bit of telly. If I can ask one thing.....please don't take the fruit crumble off the menu .....ever. Just wished I lived back there...

The service from the manageress and the bar staff was second to none; really friendly, chatty and knowledgeable. They even let us try different pale ales and red wines to choose our drinks.
The food was the best I've had anywhere, steak night is definitely worth it. Well worth the price tag, would happily pay for this experience many more times. My starter was Salt & Pepper chicken, kick of Chilli was amazing with sesame and scally onions. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of my steak and the lamb shank because we were so keen to eat it, both were delicious, fresh and cooked to perfection. All the food was piping hot and stayed hot throughout the meal, a real sign of class. The beer is reasonably priced being a bar-restaurant.
I haven't been since 2019, obviously circumstances dictated, but I definitely won't be leaving it so long to come in again.
Thank you very...
