First time in Ipswich. Me and partner went for a walk on the dock area to look at the scenery, it’s our anniversary…
Saw this pub decided to get a drink before continuing our walk. the building was nice, never seen anything like it, it was looked like a mega club in London that have many rooms and levels, but a pub version. It was about 1pm on Thursday, so it was empty, it would be bonkers if it was full.
Went in with good energy, left feeling confused. Firstly the bartender maybe was having a bad day, because I came in and was like, wow I never saw anything like this, but he ignored me. No welcoming, no smile, nothing… So I ordered the drinks and then he tried to upsell us a different drink, however our first interaction was not well. So I don’t really want what you are selling at this point. Anyways we took what he was selling and went outside to watch the boats.
We outside enjoying ourself in the sun. Then a lady came out asking us if we brought our own water. And if we didn’t like their water?... We were so confused as to what she was implying… So I was like; yes it is our water.. It seems like she was outside or maybe kick out because we were sitting there and maybe on her cameras she didn’t see the drinks we purchased on the table and it was only after she spoke, she realised that we were a paying customers.. she responded saying just checking if our water isn’t good enough.. so now I had to explain as to why we are there with an empty water bottle… we were walking on the dock and decided to come in for a drink… then she leave us.
We was soo confused. We finished our...
Read moreI recently visited Isaacs on the Quay with two friends for a farewell gathering, and we had a delightful experience. Located on the picturesque Ipswich waterfront overlooking the Orwell River, the setting was perfect for a relaxed evening. The weather was just right—not too cold or warm—allowing us to enjoy both indoor and outdoor seating options.
We started our visit with a selection of drinks: Desperado, Guinness, and a local treat, Aspall Cider. The draught Aspall was particularly impressive, with its blush flavor offering a sweet and refreshing taste that complemented our meal perfectly.
For food, we opted for shared plates: Sriracha chicken, loaded chips with cheese and chipotle mayo, and a side of chicken strips. The flavors were vibrant, and the dishes were generously portioned, making them ideal for sharing. The loaded chips were a standout, with just the right amount of spice from the Sriracha.
The ambience of the bar was enjoyable, striking a nice balance between lively and relaxed. It wasn’t overly crowded, which allowed for easy conversation and a laid-back vibe. The staff were friendly and attentive, promptly clearing our used glasses and plates, and ensuring our needs were met.
Overall, Isaacs on the Quay provided a wonderful setting for our gathering. It was a memorable farewell for my colleague moving out of Ipswich, enhanced by good food, great drinks, and an inviting atmosphere. I would highly recommend this spot for anyone looking to unwind with friends or celebrate a...
Read moreMyself and 2 other cyclists visited for coffee and lunch. On arrival we were greeted by a young lady who was very pleasant and polite. She informed us we could leave our bikes to the side of the restaurant out the way of anyone. We then ordered 2 drinks each and we were in the process of ordering food. Whilst waiting at the table another member of staff came over he was tall, slim and young maybe the manager? who told us we had to remove our bikes out of the premises completely or we would have to leave even after informing him we had just paid for our order. He said he would give us a refund so we would leave the property. We then moved to the front of the building which was outside and placed our bikes in an alternative location, again not obstructing anyone. This was before our drinks had arrived at our other table where we asked if they could be brought to the new table. He still insisted this was not appropriate and that they needed to be completely removed. To which we placed them the other side of the road outside the restaurant as we also were not allowed to park them against the glass barrier on the outside. With this we decided not to order food due to his outrageous actions and attitude towards us. Our cokes arrived, however we had to ask five times for our coffees which we had ordered. Once these arrived they were awful, just like hot milk. Overall this service was utterly appalling and if your trying to deter cyclists then you may as-well put a sign up saying cyclists not...
