I’m going to start off by saying that cafe Celeste is my go to breakfast/ brunch place which me and my friends visit at least once a week and a place that I have recommended to absolutely everyone I know! I rated the atmosphere a 5 as I’ve never had any problems with this and the food a 4 because other than this visit, the food has been absolutely lovely and the prices also decent.
Ignoring the fact that I had been fasting today and had already waited an hour before getting to cafe Celeste in the hopes of having a proper meal, me and my friend were sat and had ordered our food at around 19:08 but correct me if I’m wrong. We expected to have eaten and left by around 8 as we had somewhere to be, and given our many previous visits, 50ish minutes seems to be more than long enough at this establishment.
We decided to try something new off of the menu so we ordered one chargrilled burger with one mango milkshake between the both of us and were told that it would take 20 minutes as chargrilled takes longer which seemed reasonable I think. Therefore, we were expecting to get our food at around 19:30. It’s important to note that other than me and my friend, there was only one other table of one seated before us and that was it. By around 19:58 we had to get up and ask to get some of the food packed as my friend had to leave and it had still not been served to us. I repeatedly said that I only wanted half the burger packed as I was planning on staying and eating, however I was suddenly asked to pay and was wondering why when I realised that everything had been packed! The woman serving us decided not to charge us for the milkshake but still the rest of our food. Perhaps we may not have been as annoyed had we not been charged at all, but 50 minutes for one burger, a portion of chips and a milkshake is absolutely ridiculous!!!!!! (Especially when the shop is barely busy)
Now, I wasn’t going to sit back down after everything had been packed, so me and my friend left our separate ways, with one of us having to take the milkshake and the other having to take the food. By the time I arrived home, which was at about 20:15, my food was cold so maybe I can’t judge the taste of it fairly, but one thing I would like to add is that I specifically asked for no tomatoes on the burger and guess what I saw when I opened the box?
Overall, I’m very disappointed in my visit today as I have never had such problems before and absolutely love this place to bits, and maybe I caught the workers on a bad day but the poor service today just cannot...
Read moreStarting with the food it was overall very delicious. The samosa's weren't hot and had more potatoes than meat but they were crispy and still nice with decent spice and you get two per portion. The sauces they gave with the food were a decent selection the mint sauce was solid, and the tamarind sauce had a nice tang and a little heat. Ketchup was standard. The dynamite prawns and chicken was the star of the main course, absolutely amazing. Hot and crispy on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside which comes with a lovely sauce all over my favourite part of the meal. The lamb chops were nice in terms of flavour but were too chewy not as tender as better one's. The chicken tikka was full of flavour and medium spice but the chicken was dry not as juicy as the dynamite chicken which was disappointing. The biryani was very good not the best but above average it has good flavour and the chicken wasn't dry. The sheekh kebabs were really nice and moist but didn't have enough heat but definitely worth having it goes really well with the mint sauce. Lastly the desserts were beautiful the milk cake was lovely and sweet and you get a very big portion but I would say the best dessert were the Dutch pancakes super fluffy and warm very hard to beat that was my favourite. My mum had the strawberry mojito and she said it was really nice and would recommend it. Oh and the curly fries were really crispy and nice. All the food is freshly made and hot.
The service was outstanding. Our waitress was the best. She was super attentive, helpful and kind. She made the whole experience better and always smiled. Thank you! (sorry I forgot your name).
In summary a lovely evening and a great meal followed by excellent service. I will definitely be back for brunch or breakfast. I would highly recommend everyone try cafe celeste it's worth it. It's all halal...
Read moreI was very disappointed with the service we received yesterday morning when we called in for brunch as it was my daughter's birthday. I had ordered a veggie breakfast with sausages. The breakfast was well cooked but without sausages. When I asked the waitress why they were not included she said they were not part of the meal. After talking to the chef she said that they were part of the meal but that they didn't have any and they had given me an extra toast instead which of course in no way a fair replacement cost wise. The sausages were also missing on a previous visit but I didn't realise I had still been charged for them. My daughter had ordered a full breakfast which never even came. When the waitress was asked about it, she answered "did you order another breakfast " and didn't seem to remember my daughters order. As I was about to pay, the waitress asked if everything was alright. I said no everything is not alright, she just looked down and didn't talk anymore. The chef standing behind her also just looked down and didn't offer any apologies or discount for the bad service. This is a really nice little restaurant but the staff have no people skills and should not charge for a full breakfast if the main item is not available. I suggest in the future that the waitress writes down any customers orders and is more honest when food items are...
