Service and atmosphere here is very warm and welcoming! Carl in particular, very friendly. Sitting at the front, he greeted all his customers with a smile, ensuring all was acknowledged!! Couldn't fault it at all! There was a little wait, but a popular place like such is bound to be! A rule of thumb in any business, if they're busy, they must be doing something right to have a great footfall! The food was brilliant, I had a toasted bloomer sandwich washed down with a cappuccino. The bread in particular was a major highlight; Deep thickly sliced, mouth watering lightly crispy on the outside, succeluntly soft as a marshmallow in the inside! Deeply filled, with a cheese string pull in every bite! It definitely hit the spot!! The warm welcome aside, the hospitality will definitely be remembered, given the fact I was fed 'on the house' Thank you very much to the team at Northern Sole Café!!!

You might think this place would get right a bacon and egg sandwich but no. Mildly rude staff, old bread dry and falling apart, cheapest sauce you could possibly buy and black egg! Disgusting on all levels! Update/reply. I walked to the chemist and back just a few 100 yards from your café so pretty sure it wasn't there waiting more than a couple of minuets. The bacon was nice however if that watery sauce was Heinz I'll put my head between my legs and kiss my own ****! The egg, well it looked like it had been dropped on the floor! I honestly don't know how to make an egg go black like that, I can only imagine that your cooking surface is dirty or something, anyway, it's enough to make me never want to eat at your café again......even if you paid me!

We called over to “Slawit” and as we walked along the canal spotted on the other side a vibrant lively cafe called Northern Sole. We were curious to see what “street food” offerings were available. We chose a “Rude boy” and a Mac and cheese with Chorizo- WOW - great tasting food and very reasonably priced. We had the option to dine inside or outside as they are very dog friendly. Luke and the team were attentive to all our needs and Roxy’s too, we can only give them a five star review for a perfect visit!

Regrettably our recent visit was a less than 5 star visit. We have visited here before and had a better experience so was a little disappointing.

The outside area is nice and comfortable and it is great it is dog friendly however, we were made to feel uncomfortable from the start by the abruptness of the staff. We only wanted drinks which seemed a disappointment and were made to feel like this was a bit of an inconvenience. We were asked again if we wanted to order food by another member of staff which was attentive but also not the most friendly experience we have encountered.

The drinks were lovely, no complaints there and they were brought about promptly.

The only other thing to mention was the toilet. I appreciate that some maintenance work cannot be fixed straight away but as a heavily pregnant person going to the toilet in the dark was less than ideal. Although some efforts had been made to light the toilet it simply wasn’t enough.

I appreciate everyone has busy and bad days, not all the staff were short and unwelcoming so maybe that was the reason but you never want to feel uncomfortable in a hospitality setting.

We love to return to dog friendly places because they are far and few between so hopefully this was just a ‘one off’...

Went here on Sunday and wished we hadn't. Not a friendly place at all. I asked a waitress for water for our dog. She didn't bring any. When I went to pay for our food she was sat at a table looking at her phone. Also when I went to pay for food..I stood at the til and another waitress stood there looking down and completely ignored me and walked off. I must have been stood in front of her for 5 mins. A lovely blonde waitress apologised and took my payment. She asked if everything had been OK. I said I did ask for some water for my dog...but the girl sat there didn't bring any. A man behind the bar said for future ref there are bowls outside at the front. I said we'll how would we know that. We actually came in around the back. I've never been in to such a rude place. And also such miserable staff. Except for the blonde waitress who was very nice. The food wasn't wonderful either. meal was just warm. I can't understand where these good reviews are coming from. Will never...

We visited on a Sunday and I must say the drinks spot on and it’s dog friendly! One star each

The reason for 2 out of 5

I have to say a smile when dealing with customers goes a long long way even if it’s fake! We all felt so uncomfortable with the service we received we just got drinks and didn’t want to order any food.

We had the drinks (was lovely drinks) and decided to eat at another cafe that was so friendly.

I spotted some empty dog bowls up off the floor. I think in my own opinion you should ask every dog owner if the dog would like a bowl of water and a dog treat! (I did see a jar with some free treats) Any dog owner knows there dog is more important than themselves when ordering drinks after a long walk

I can see the other reviews shine for this place but I have to be honest it wasn’t the case for us.

We are lucky to be able to visit lots of places and this place has so much more potential but slipped for us...
