Y's bar & snap — Restaurant in Kirklees

Posting on behalf of my other half who doesn't have a Google account:

I lived in Holmfirth a number of years ago and one evening decided to visit this bar by myself...

What unfolded could only be explainable on Netflix.

The evening started calmly enjoying a pint by the log burner. Enjoying the atmosphere I chose to approach the bar and request a choice of whiskeys, to which the owner obliged.

Customers came and went, with only myself, the owner and another customer remaining. We shared general conversation, which strangely varied with the owner suggesting that I didn't blink and therefore was an agent of the Devil.

I assumed this was a joke and perhaps her name for a rival bar local owner. To my horror it was no joke at all, she became aggressive and admitant of her unhinged suspicions. She was calmed down by the other customer and my statements that I was not the Devil, which ironically is probably what he would say.

Anyway, time past conversation became more normal and then another customer arrived who seemed local. The previous customer left and not a second before the door closed, we were back on satanism and that the owner believed she was Saint Michael, proclaiming to the ceiling that she would smite me.

The local customer suggested that she may be unhinged and perhaps I should leave, so with a puff of black smoke I returned to the sixth circle of hell.

I found it that odd that I decided to attempted on a number of occasions to post this on the community group social media as a resident, however the admins advised that they were aware of the owners issues for whom I excluded their name which rhymes with Salamander.

Avoid this place for fear of being smited, smouted...

Worked here years ago as a teenager; my first part time job with some confidence issues. Took some time to realise the owner is a nasty, unhinged, abusive woman. Wasn’t happy with my performance? She’d wait until I left my shift to do something that would sabotage me (I.e., go into the kitchen and open the window, to then complain to my boss, the head chef, that I had left it open). Another was having me clear a table of empty plates. Having asked if everyone was finished and being greeted with nods and yeses from everyone, I took the plates away. Some time later, a woman from that table pulled me aside and gave me abuse for taking her food away when she hadn’t finished. I later find out this same woman is very close with the owner, no doubt a plan to sabotage me and get me into trouble. Other times were humiliating me in front of customers.

As a teenager, this can really impact your confidence in the work place. Felt compelled to leave this review amidst the lovely comments about the owner - you never really know someone! And condolences to the woman who has to use bullying...

Visited here having being highly recommended by a friend. Fair play the place is spotless and gorgeous decor. Waited a good 7/8 minutes being completely ignored by bar tender/ owner whilst she sorted out some personal delivery?? Then she carried on with someone else's order still not even acknowledging us. When we eventually got served (can't fault the drinks they were perfect) I did think just shy of £27 for 2 double Gins and a packet of peanuts was a bit expensive. Took our empties back to the bar on leaving and said thank you to be completely ignored again!
