Myself and my partner had been looking forward to trying Flat Iron for months as many of our friends had recommended the place to us. Despite the staff being kind, we were really disappointed by the experience. Even though we turned up at our booking time, one of the waitresses really kindly explained that our table wasnât quite ready and pointed to it being cleaned. We had absolutely no problem with waiting, which we made very clear! However, the manager came over to us and changed our booking to a different table, presumably because it was busy and he wanted us out of the way, and took us to the back of the room. We were sat by a kind of freestanding door with windows, which meant we could see that we were sat less than a metre from the kitchen hatch (which had incredibly bright heat lamps) and the bin, where we had staff stood squirting sauce into it right next to us while we were eating. The table was also right by the toilet and next to the bar which meant that staff would be squeezing in behind me and reaching over us to collect drinks.
The food itself was also just not what we were expecting. Though it was quick and the steak tasted okay, neither were cooked how we asked for, and everything was just really oily and for some reason tasted fishy?? (we genuinely canât understand why, possibly the oil??). It wasnât bad, it just wasnât enjoyable or anything like what we were expecting. Also the cocktail I had was probably the size of an jagerbomb and cost ÂŁ9.
Both myself and my partner hate sending food back, so we take responsibility for not bringing it to the attention of the staff, but for a highly-rated steak restaurant we expected it to be right from the beginning. Thank you to the waitstaff who were lovely despite it being busy, but this just didnât make up for the experience as a whole being really disappointing. There really shouldnât be table where we were sat, it felt separate to the rest of the restaurant and was really off-putting having staff squirting stuff into the bin and washing cutlery right next to your head while you eat.
Maybe weâll try a different location because we loved the concept and thought it had potential to be...
Read moreCame to flat iron the weekend of Valentineâs Day. We had tried to book but couldnât so went in and put our name on the list and came back later - this worked great. While we were waiting for our food there were some glasses that smashed at the top of the stairs. This led to pieces of smashed glass falling down onto ourselves and our table and the couple next to us. There were glass shards on the table, in the water glass, in my hair and in the couples food next to us. I had to ask to get the water removed and replaced and mentioned that the lady next to me should have a new steak and chips. We werenât asked if weâd like to move or even just temporarily to be able to wipe down the tables and sweep up the glass. The food then came and was okay. At this point we just wanted to eat and go home to shower and get the feeling of glass out our hair. When the bill came, we asked if there was anything that could be done. We spoke to the manager who did not even come over to apologise about the glass or ask if we were okay. He just came and walked past to pick up a big shard of glass thinking we hadnât noticed it and that was it. When ourselves and the couple next to us explained that we were not happy with what had happened and one of us still had a headache from it the manager replied with, âbut you said you were okayâ. We were never asked and the table next to us was only asked once. The manager seemed more concerned with what was said than how we were - which would have been easier to work out by having a conversation with us and not going round asking all the servers who were on our section. The fact the manager of a chain restaurant was not the first person to come over and deal with what had happened is something very confusing to me. We should have been spoken to by them after it happened and not only at the end when we asked. Overall this was not a pleasant experience and we felt that there were definitely things about the service that could have been done differently and how the manager dealt with it wasnât...
Read moreThis place kicks us out with the reason of fully booked, however many empty seats are there. I am furious with the white girl server who keeps repeating âhalf a hour to 45 minsâ, to any question I am giving with. I knew my English is not fully native but you donât even give me time to FINISH my words?? Only because we are foreign Asian?? How you are not being racism?? đ«ąor you just being rude to the customers and visitors?? And your response of FULLY BOOKED, the image Iâve uploaded is at the time that they were kicking us out, itâs only a corner of the room and this restaurant has more than 5 tables empty as I noticed, the server did not even show us any evidence of they are fully booked, just repeating âfully booked half an hour and 45 minsâ over and over and over again. All I thought was have a quick dinner with my parents if they are coming in less an hour or so. Thatâs why I said âhow much time for them to finishâ, âI saw empty seats in this roomâ, âsqueeze in if possibleâ. (And yes I didnât even finish these sentence ,the girl just keeps repeating her line âhalf an hour and 45 minsâ)
I get annoyed by this sentence was repeated after 5 times, if you think what this âhalf an hour and 45 minsâlady did was wisely, I got nothing to say. FYI, even though Iâm made, I only respond: âYou donât need to keep saying half an hour and 45 minsâ. I wish your restaurant would appreciate it for me being ârudeâ.
And come on your flat iron, not some Michelin stars with the luxury chief and service. At least you can speak to the walkin customers that: other customers are on the way? Or in 30 mins they will be here or something? Give me at least one reliable reason of why these empty seats are not for walk-in, PLEASE.
Donât tell me you wonât get made of just being responded in a robotic sentence and being treated like an idiot.
All I want is having a fair, respectful, humanity response. Itâs unbelievable to have such a disappointing experience from this restaurant and their...
