Myself and my partner had been looking forward to trying Flat Iron for months as many of our friends had recommended the place to us. Despite the staff being kind, we were really disappointed by the experience. Even though we turned up at our booking time, one of the waitresses really kindly explained that our table wasn’t quite ready and pointed to it being cleaned. We had absolutely no problem with waiting, which we made very clear! However, the manager came over to us and changed our booking to a different table, presumably because it was busy and he wanted us out of the way, and took us to the back of the room. We were sat by a kind of freestanding door with windows, which meant we could see that we were sat less than a metre from the kitchen hatch (which had incredibly bright heat lamps) and the bin, where we had staff stood squirting sauce into it right next to us while we were eating. The table was also right by the toilet and next to the bar which meant that staff would be squeezing in behind me and reaching over us to collect drinks.

The food itself was also just not what we were expecting. Though it was quick and the steak tasted okay, neither were cooked how we asked for, and everything was just really oily and for some reason tasted fishy?? (we genuinely can’t understand why, possibly the oil??). It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t enjoyable or anything like what we were expecting. Also the cocktail I had was probably the size of an jagerbomb and cost £9.

Both myself and my partner hate sending food back, so we take responsibility for not bringing it to the attention of the staff, but for a highly-rated steak restaurant we expected it to be right from the beginning. Thank you to the waitstaff who were lovely despite it being busy, but this just didn’t make up for the experience as a whole being really disappointing. There really shouldn’t be table where we were sat, it felt separate to the rest of the restaurant and was really off-putting having staff squirting stuff into the bin and washing cutlery right next to your head while you eat.

Maybe we’ll try a different location because we loved the concept and thought it had potential to be...

Came to flat iron the weekend of Valentine’s Day. We had tried to book but couldn’t so went in and put our name on the list and came back later - this worked great. While we were waiting for our food there were some glasses that smashed at the top of the stairs. This led to pieces of smashed glass falling down onto ourselves and our table and the couple next to us. There were glass shards on the table, in the water glass, in my hair and in the couples food next to us. I had to ask to get the water removed and replaced and mentioned that the lady next to me should have a new steak and chips. We weren’t asked if we’d like to move or even just temporarily to be able to wipe down the tables and sweep up the glass. The food then came and was okay. At this point we just wanted to eat and go home to shower and get the feeling of glass out our hair. When the bill came, we asked if there was anything that could be done. We spoke to the manager who did not even come over to apologise about the glass or ask if we were okay. He just came and walked past to pick up a big shard of glass thinking we hadn’t noticed it and that was it. When ourselves and the couple next to us explained that we were not happy with what had happened and one of us still had a headache from it the manager replied with, “but you said you were okay”. We were never asked and the table next to us was only asked once. The manager seemed more concerned with what was said than how we were - which would have been easier to work out by having a conversation with us and not going round asking all the servers who were on our section. The fact the manager of a chain restaurant was not the first person to come over and deal with what had happened is something very confusing to me. We should have been spoken to by them after it happened and not only at the end when we asked. Overall this was not a pleasant experience and we felt that there were definitely things about the service that could have been done differently and how the manager dealt with it wasn’t...

This place kicks us out with the reason of fully booked, however many empty seats are there. I am furious with the white girl server who keeps repeating “half a hour to 45 mins”, to any question I am giving with. I knew my English is not fully native but you don’t even give me time to FINISH my words?? Only because we are foreign Asian?? How you are not being racism?? đŸ«ąor you just being rude to the customers and visitors?? And your response of FULLY BOOKED, the image I’ve uploaded is at the time that they were kicking us out, it’s only a corner of the room and this restaurant has more than 5 tables empty as I noticed, the server did not even show us any evidence of they are fully booked, just repeating “fully booked half an hour and 45 mins” over and over and over again. All I thought was have a quick dinner with my parents if they are coming in less an hour or so. That’s why I said “how much time for them to finish”, “I saw empty seats in this room”, “squeeze in if possible”. (And yes I didn’t even finish these sentence ,the girl just keeps repeating her line “half an hour and 45 mins”)

I get annoyed by this sentence was repeated after 5 times, if you think what this “half an hour and 45 mins”lady did was wisely, I got nothing to say. FYI, even though I’m made, I only respond: “You don’t need to keep saying half an hour and 45 mins”. I wish your restaurant would appreciate it for me being “rude”.

And come on your flat iron, not some Michelin stars with the luxury chief and service. At least you can speak to the walkin customers that: other customers are on the way? Or in 30 mins they will be here or something? Give me at least one reliable reason of why these empty seats are not for walk-in, PLEASE.

Don’t tell me you won’t get made of just being responded in a robotic sentence and being treated like an idiot.

All I want is having a fair, respectful, humanity response. It’s unbelievable to have such a disappointing experience from this restaurant and their...

I haven’t been to Flatiron since at least 2020. I used to love the Denmark Street one but just don’t go to London so much these days
Anyhow, they’ve opened this one in Leeds, so time to rekindle the experience. 😎 The restaurant itself is in an attractive building next to Pizza Express. This used to be Byron (remember them?) and is a good location. Very convenient for Trinity and M&S. Didn’t book as they didn’t use to allow that. Apparently they do now. We live and learn
Didn’t matter though as only two minutes wait for a table. Score. The food naturally had to be the steak. ‘The Steak’
this was cooked as ordered and served with beef dripping chips and creamed spinach. Yum. BĂ©arnaise sauce completed the trifecta. The trinity united once more. The steak was as good as I remember and they still use the little cleavers. Don’t steal these. You can buy one for ÂŁ15 if you must have one. The beer was something called Freedom Four. It was ok, not heard of it before. Served in a schooner though - did Leeds invent the schooner or something? Between here and the Malmaison I only ever see this size here
😆 At the end of the meal you get a free soft serve ice cream. Tasty. Eat it in the rain outside. Other weather sometimes available, but not often. Overall an excellent experience. Definitely come here if you like steak and want a decent meal at a reasonable price. Don’t come here if you’re vegetarian, picky or really wanted chicken. A firm two paws up.

So happy that Flat Iron opened this location in Leeds! Everything about the experience at this restaurant is fantastic from start to finish. Having worked in a popular steakhouse chain in the US for many years, my standards for what makes a good steak dinner are fairly high. This place blew my expectations straight out of the water! All of the staff members were incredibly helpful and made sure we were happy with our meal every step of the way. Server Karina made sure to explain everything on the menu and answered any questions we had with a smile. I enjoyed the Passion Fruit Collins so much that I had to have another after we finished our meal. The wagyu picanha special was one of the most flavorful steaks I've had in my life--Salt Bae needs to take notes. The crispy bone marrow garlic mash was so tasty that we ordered another portion. The creamed spinach, green salad, and truffled mac & cheese were all equally excellent as well. The decor is very clean with earthy tones. It is clear a lot has been paid attention to with even the smallest details like the funky music soundtrack and the lovely smelling bathroom soap. The tiny cleavers we received to exchange for complimentary soft serve ice cream cones on our way out were an especially wholesome touch. Will absolutely be back to have another pulchritudinous meal soon!
