I have never had Ethiopian food before tonight, but I'll definitely be having it again after visiting here.
My friends and I fancied going for a meal, so I Googled Restaurants in Harehills. I sent a list of the ones I liked the look of, and my friends decided on Piassa. And so the booking was made.
Walking up, I was worried it was closed as it looks very dark from the outside, I've often thought this driving past in fact. But no, opening the door there were other customers there and a warm greeting from the member of staff.
We got a mixed platter and some lamb chops, on the suggestion of our waiter, and drinks. It all came out in not too much time at all and it was all amazing! I have to admit, I was worried it was going to be too spicy for me, but it wasn't at all. Also, it's not just a hot spice, there are so many gorgeous and subtle flavours running through each tasty pile on the injera.
We asked for plates each so we didn't drip, and to give us somewhere to deposit bones, and these were provided with a smile. I don't think anything would have been too much trouble for the staff!
Finally, we were brought coffee and popcorn as a thank you. Now, I don't normally drink coffee but I thought I'd give it a taste. As it didn't smell like the stuff I've had before. It was lovely, though one cup was enough. We hadn't been able to eat everything we'd ordered for our main, so asked if it could be boxed up to be taken away - no problem at all. I know what I'm having for lunch and probably tea tomorrow, depending on how greedy I am at lunch!
I've already told a few friends about it, and I'll definitely be returning at some point. Because, just, YUM! Definitely...
Read moreWe used to go to an Ethiopian restaurant in the merrion centre in Leeds which was excellent. They closed down, and after trying somewhere else, we found piassa and have been here a few times and ordered take away a few times. We decided to order a take away here after not having been for about two years. I previously called and asked about take away which was still possible.
So I ordered the take away from their on line website, and when I picked it up, was asked to pay ÂŁ10 more. I had just enough cash and this wasnât great that I had to use my card to pay for the extra because their website wasnât updated. Had I been informed that the website was actually way out of date, it wouldnât have been a surprise. But when he didnât honour their website prices from which I ordered our take away , I wasnât impressed.
One of the things we ordered was a special kifto ( most expensive dish on menu ) and we didnât get this at all. No cheese to be found. Yebeg wot had one tiny piece of meat and the rest was a sauce so incredibly greasy we didn't want to eat it. We also ordered a doro wot and instead received a very dry minced meat dish, and the dulet dish was also as dry as anything.
We know from previous positive experiences here, that the quality is not what it once was and for that price, we will not be returning here anytime...
Read moreI don't know where to start. Me and finance went there to eat and when we were about to get in, one of the people there who looks like a regular customer wouldn't want to let us in and said it was closed when we have already booked a table. Not sure why she did that and after we were sat at the table, she was was staring at us non stop.
Foodwise, Not the best food. Food is low quality and no taste. The meat aka tubs was so dry and no flavour. The Cabbage was dry and lentils were nothing special. I asked for Ethiopian coffee but the waitress said they have Italian. Very embarrassing to say this as its an Ethiopian place and they should have at least have the option to provide Ethiopian coffee. They won't check if your meal is OK or anything like that, very poor customer service. They brought 'awaze' which doesn't even taste like one. It looks like they mixed chilli powder with lemon. Please don't go to this place and waste...
