I travelled here from Middlesbrough after being disappointed with the service I received in your previous restaurant in Sunderland and thought I would give you another chance. Nothing about this restaurant was good, the food was bland and greasy, the wait time to get served was atrocious and I swear the chips are a cheap frozen brand which is not acceptable for the price.
I don’t understand your concept… you’re trying to be different then doing a bad job at it and holding onto the failed concept for a long period of time, I respect that being different can work out for most restaurants but yours is atrocious. Sure, a small amount of people may enjoy your fantasy but the majority obviously don’t as your restaurant is always lacking customers and you need a reality check.
There’s a reason why your restaurant is nearly always empty, the food and service is lacklustre. After a bit of research I found that your Sunderland restaurant failed as well and there was an incident with one of your chefs which I will not go into, but a quick Google search will explain this better than me.
Sometimes going back to a simple Indian restaurant style is the way to go and not these gimmicks that you’ve been keen on for years, I am 100% certain this restaurant will fail as well like the previous two. Sometimes it’s time to move on, I hope you finally find the success that you...
Read moreThe Funky Indian is hands-down one of the most unique and exciting Indian restaurants I’ve ever been to! From the moment you walk in, the ambiance grabs you and doesn't hold back!! From the colours and sounds and neon signs that bring a funky twist to the traditional Indian vibe. It's the perfect mix of authentic and cool, making you feel like you've stumbled into a slice of Punjab with a hip, urban edge.
Now, let’s talk about the food. This place doesn’t serve classic Indian dishes; it reimagines them. Their menu is a brilliant fusion of traditional flavors with unexpected twists—think mixed grill on pizza, Masala chips mashups, and desserts that keep going!! Each and every bite was like comfort food with an exotic kick. They’re not afraid to experiment, and it absolutely works.
The cocktail menu is a journey all on its own. Try their signature cocktails for something totally unforgettable. Every drink is as bold and colorful as the decor.
Service is warm, lively, and fast. The staff is enthusiastic and genuinely seems to enjoy walking you through the menu, offering great recommendations and pairing tips. They really make you feel like you’re in for something special.
If you’re looking for an Punjabi dining experience that’s anything but ordinary, The Funky Indian is the spot. Bring your friends, bring your appetite, and get ready for an explosion of...
Read more5/5 for the logo's face - looks exactly like the owner however I wish I spoke to the logo instead when we had a complaint because I think we would have had more of a chance of receiving an apology from that.
Regarding my 'Meat'izza' - You can tell they don't have a shortage of masala as they like to pile it on the chips. If you ever done the cinnamon challenge then you can expect it to feel like that in your mouth.
NO FLAVOUR or SPICE to the lamb meat nor the chicken. I don't want to hear from the owner 'You clearly don't know punjabi food' because being from Asian decent, we have this type of food for breakfast, lunch, dinner and EVEN supper.
One person from our table ordered chicken nuggets - they decided to tell us 40 minutes after the order that they didn't have any in the 'freezer' (apparently fresh meat). 15 minutes after that - they found some! Must have found a few nuggets at the back of the freezer which they had to pickaxe out.
This is the first review I have ever left in my whole life of 26 years and I can tell you it was worth the while writing this.
Don't worry though - East Restaurant is only...
