Costa Coffee — Restaurant in Lewes

Unfortunately had an awful experience here after drinking one of their hot chocolate and after thinking it was a one off or maybe it was just me I was horrified to hear this week someone else informed me that it had also happened to their family members last week thankfully not causing so much damage but still making them violently unwell. We attended the cafe for a small meeting we ordered hot chocolate and coffees and sat in the first red flag being that the tables were sticky and there was a lot of flies around. To the point that they were landing on our table and on the sources. Within about 30 minutes of finishing up and leaving I'd started to become quite violently unwell like I never had been before this ended up with just over 48 hours of being incredibly sick and an a&e visit. This is due to the fact that whatever was in that drink and a combination of what your body does when you get poisoning had caused third degree burns. This resulted in being in dressings for over 6 weeks bed-bound for the two of those weeks and just over a year to almost full recovery this does not include recovery of nerves that were completely damaged. Extremely rude staff, no customer service skills whatsoever. We was made to feel like it was an effort to take our order. I asked for the toblerone hot chocolate and was told it was no longer available which I understand it's a promotion offer but when I asked what other flavours there were the girl made out like it was a issue having to tell me them. I then asked for my hot chocolate to be made with skinny milk before I paid. I watched the other girl poor mine and someone else's from the same milk pot who hadn't asked for skinny milk as she had looked at the screen to start making the drinks whilst I was still ordering so there for I know it was made with semi -skimmed milk. I have a intolerance to milk and can only have skimmed every so often. The tables were also extremely dirty with lots of ring marks and spills from other customers where the cups had been taken but no wiping of them had been done. Came at around 16:35 for a coffee so my disabled partner could have a break from walking around before our shop. Tried looking at the drinks menu for a while (it plays videos in between menus that we have to wait to finish lol). A woman served us and said hi to get our attention and then snapped it a second time I assume because she didn't hear my hi in response. Was genuinely taken aback for a moment at how rude she was being (we were the only customers, it wasn't busy). She told us they couldn't serve food as they're closing in 10 minutes (they were closing in 20 minutes) which probably could've been specified as hot food as they could still serve cakes etc. Throughout serving us she was just rude and acting like she didn't want to be there. The other man working made our drinks and was actually nice and decent (and normal). She treated other customers after us better so I'm not sure what we did that...
