Zorba - Lewes — Restaurant in Lewes

Top marks for a top restaurant. We decided to have my daughter's birthday party for nine of us at Zorba on Wednesday night. It turned out to be a great idea! From the moment we entered Zorba, everything went wonderfully. The staff were very freindly immediately. After being seated we were allowed time to settle in and discuss the menu. When we decided to order our waitress was perfect. She was relaxed, freindly and most important, informative. She answered all questions knowledgeably and advised when we weren't sure. When the starters arrived the food was excellent, tasty, spicy and good sized plates. From the special platter to meatballs, to cheeses everything was perfect. After a reasonable wait to digest, the main course arrived and yet again was perfect. Every plate cleared. And finally, the birthday cake we brought with us was brought out by the staff, candles blazing, to the accompaniment of nearly all the staff, music, singing , hand clapping and even some staff dancing. It was an unexpected pleasure for my daughter and made her evening complete. When we left most staff said goodbye and a couple bowed to us. Such lovely treatment. We shall be returning. Lovely Turkish restaurant in Lewes. Came here to celebrate a birthday.

We ordered the chicken platter for 2, Lamb Guvec and Kleftiko (lamb shank). The lamb guvec and kleftiko were beautifully cooked- the meat just fell off the bone and both were very flavourful.

The chicken platter came with a generous selection of chicken options and also a mixed starter plate. The only downfalls were the chicken thigh was quite dry and the falafel was burnt and rock hard but everything else was delicious. The portions were very generous and it was plenty of food for 5 people to share.

The mocktails did have a LOT of ice which watered down the drink after a short while, however, they did taste nice and the syrup was generous.

We brought a cake and they were kind enough to bring it out with candles and sing happy birthday to the birthday boy which was a nice touch. Service was quite slow to begin with despite the restaurant not being full but we were checked in on multiple times after the food was served.

The atmosphere in Zorba is great, very relaxed. Our waiter last eve, 2.4.24 at 19.30hs was very polite, charming and helpful. Our starters of Banaganoush, Chicken sticks etc were yummy and the main courses equally so. My slow-roasted aubergine with tomatoes and peppers&feta was delicious and beautifully presented. My friends had the chicken skewers and loved them; so filling they had trouble finishing them. We shared 3 different desserts from an excellent range. Theye were the Manhattan Stack, Tartuffo Scuro and Banoffee Tart, all divine in different ways. Our Mermaid gin with soft drink eg lemonade, was excellent and flavoursome! The only let-down, amongst all the wonderful food and drink, was the Macchiato coffee, which didn't suit the bitter Turkish coffee. I always like to follow the customs of any particular country's cuisine, but not the coffee! Sorry! Thanks for a super meal. We will be back!
