Booked in advance for Christmas Day meal at 3 pm . On arrival they had no record of our booking. On production of our receipt they found our booking however, it was now for 3 .30. It looks like they changed our booking time without notification . Things became progressively worse after this. The noise in the place was terrible . Me and my partner were having to shout at each other. It was not helped by the unnecessary music being played. There was several screaming and ill behaved children. This was ignored by the parents, management and staff. As a paying customer I expect to be able to dine in relative peace and quiet. It was difficult to get served at the bar due to a lack of staff. Once seated for our meal we waited 30 minutes for our starter which was mediocre. After starters we had to wait an additional 40 mins for the main course. But as it turned out we were one of the lucky ones because several other tables had to wait 1 to 1.5 hours + for their mains. I saw the manager give tables free rounds of drinks to try to appease them. The food when it came was very average. The turkey was not roast turkey as I know it. It tasted processed to me. The cabbage was overcooked . Parsnips were too hard and portions were very small. There was a lot of disappointed customers complaining to the manager. I was charged £3.75 for a small glass of lemonade which I know costs pennies. When I queried the overcharging the bar person said it can be refilled. Problem was we only wanted one. There should be an option to buy a single glass at a reasonable price. Overall we were very disappointed that the incompetence of the manager and kitchen staff ruined our Christmas day meal. If I could give them no stars I would. I have only given 2 stars cos the waiting staff tried their best but were getting the brunt of the complaints. I shall be contacting Whitbread head office with a complaint about this bad experience. Not recommended. Food disgusting and drinks overpriced. This is the fault of the brewery. If you have booked in advance always take your receipt with you. If you get a parking fine because the service was so slow insist that the pub pays the fine. I noticed that many people were there for more than 3 hours . We were so I told the manager to re register my car. Waiting 40 mins for your table plus 40 minutes for starter ,1.5 hours for mains could easily cause customers to get a parking fine. In a nutshell this place is the pits Avoid at all costs. You have been warned. Don't believe the hype and the false claims on the menus . The food is vile. So is the company that runs it and the so calied management . Go elsewhere. Not impressed. Not recommended. Update 30 January 2025, Whitbread head office have refunded me in full for this shambles. It's the least they could have done. Shame on Ste the local manager of the Stan n rainbow who never had the decency to admit that it all went wrong on the day. He is lucky he does not work for me. Advice stands, avoid this dump...
Read moreStaying in the Hotel next door so called in here for some thing to eat, waiting to be seated was exactly that a wait but it was not busy and only one family waiting in front of us, at first no body even acknowledge us standing there then it went to servers passing and saying some one will be with you, then a guy who looked like the manager appeared from the kitchen area and we got seated by him, he ttok our drinks order, short while later a server came over and introduced herself and asked did we want drinks, we explained we had ordered but they have not been brought over, she just said fine if you need amything just shout or wave, no mention if we were ready to order which we were. Eventually the drinks arrived and we said can we order, placed orders and food arrived pretty quick, we both had half a chicken so ended up with messy hands, I tried to get the servers attention for some more paper towels, she was busy talking to another server, tried waving but she was not paying attention and I am not into shouting so we waited and waited again, again the guy in the shirt appeared and the two servers split up and made it look like they were active, I caught her attention and asked for towels. We finished eating and she appeared to ask if we wanted sweets which we did order, Chocolate Browny is not Chocolate Browny even though we made a point of asking is it browny or chocolate cake, it is in fact chocolate cake being passed off as browny. After eating our sweets and finishing our drinks we played the waiting game again to get the bill, I could see our server plus 2 more down the room chatting round a corner, a couple in our section were also trying to pay there bill, they got up and went to a pay point but no one there, again the shirt guy appeared and so the servers took to the floor again, our server went to the paypoint to deal with the other couple so we got up and went over to pay, then another couple got up to pay and stood behind us. So three tables not cleared and all waiting to pay. It would appear this place has a problem with servers prefer to chat rather than serve there sections, they know where to stand so they can see the manager arrive on the floor. It is a shame as the food was not bad, the place was clean but service was lacking. NO tip from me on this visit and I usually tip servers as I know it is hard work when busy. Would I call again? Not likely only if i HAD NO OTHER OPTION. I think the problem is they feel it does not matter as most of there trade is passing trade from the Hotel, guests visiting the...
Read moreThe two of us had booked here for the Friday late afternoon that we were booking into the Premier Inn next door. We weren't made aware of an offer for patrons of the hotel but this wasn't a fault of the restaurant. Luckily we arrived whilst the daytime menu was still open. Staff member greeted us at the door and we were promptly seated, informed about the different menus, asked for allergies and if we would like to order drinks whilst we viewed the menu. Tables and cutlery were clean.
Drinks arrived within 5 minutes and we were given as much time as we needed to make our decisions. Food ordered and any changes noted with a smile.
Restaurant and bar area started filling up quite fast after 5pm but this didn't delay Food. We received what we ordered and everything seemed fresh, hot and delicious.
Staff checked that everything was OK with meals and asked if we would like more drinks etc. When we had finished up we were brought the bill and paid up.
We booked two mornings of breakfasts through the hotel and attended each morning at 7am. Doors were open at 7am on the dot, greeted again by staff member who confirmed our room for payment and asked if we had any allergies or if we had been for breakfast. We're were shown the coffee station, continental breakfast buffet and where hot food is served. Previously I have been to another beefeater for breakfast where you had to order and breakfast was made fresh. We actually preferred serving ourselves as we were tight on time in our schedule so we weren't sat around waiting for our food to be ready. Very friendly chef that said hello and greeted us with a smile each morning. Nice thick bacon, tasty sausages, two styles of egg, beans, mushrooms and hash browns meant there was plenty of hot options to choose from. Fresh bread out every day and a perfectly set toasting machine. Nice range of yoghurts, pastries, fruit and cereals available. Huge bonus for me was having decanted with big ice packs in for the water and juices which made drinks nice and cold. Cant comment on hot drinks as we don't drink them. Validate your reg to qualify for free parking at the venue. All in all, we were super impressed with this branch of beefeater considering some of the others are a bit hit and miss, the Stag and Rainbow were consistent in their good service all weekend. We will definitely return the next time we are...
