Edit: I have edited this review due to recent service. To be fair, I have also left the previous review below. After a brief email discussion with the manager, I have decided not to visit again. The service at our last visit was poor being lied to by a very ignorant and rude member of staff. Wouldn't serve us with food outside (had a dog with us so couldn't go in) and said they don't serve food outside in winter. and never have. Interesting as through this whole winter, we are regulars and have been eating outside. Had to go in for a refund as she shrugged and walked off. Was ignored at the bar again by another member of staff while she was on her phone. Turns out she was aware I was there for my refund but wanted to make matters worse by making me wait. Emailed manager, but it appears his due-diligence came in the form of his one email reply. I replied, but he hasn't bothered to do the same. I suppose he's done his job.
I see the attitude has become 'manager led'... He couldn't be bothered to sign his name on the email... Just "Kind Regards, The Turnpike".
Finally, I'm sorry to the staff members that are lovely, polite and welcoming that work there. You know who you are.
Shameful that after 13 years I now have to find a new local.
OldThis place has really stepped it up in the last year. Great food, nice place to have a social drink and some really friendly staff. Shout out to Ellie for never stopping smiling, and the chef who deals with some pretty...
Read moreMy friend and I visited for a catch up as we hadn't seen each other for a while. We had a voucher for £5 off a £15 spend and this swayed us to have our lunch here because of this. When we ordered there was a glitch with using our voucher and the only staff member behind the bar went out of his way to rectify this for us. He was the only staff member behind the bar at what was an extremely busy time and it was apparent that he was what can only be described as a credit to your company. He was obviously stressed and should have had colleagues helping him at this busy time but not once did he lose his cool or become agitated. The food on our visit took an hour to arrive but was worth the wait and we could not fault the customer service that your staff provided. My only comment would be that if you stretch your staff to the limit like we observed today then you will lose valuable people who should be praised and rewarded rather than taken advantage of. "Employee happiness is one of the most important factors in running a successful, profitable company". If anyone actually reads this comment then please take the time to give feedback to Jonny at the Turnpike Tavern, Liverpool who deserves recognition in a time when people are too quick to complain; he is a credit to your company and I sincerely hope that he recieves this...
Read moreThe place was fairly quiet when we arrived at the beginning of lunch but the noise level grew as parties of diners arrived. Which isn't really a problem. Bar service was good but to be honest they could have had another person behind the bar as she was run off her feet serving from the bar plus taking food orders.
I ordered my steak med to well and there was far too much raw meat there for my liking. I would have returned it but the kitchen had a lot of orders to do. There was quite a long time waiting for our deserts as staff were dealing with increasing numbers of diners who they wanted to keep happy. However, when my Eton Mess arrived it wasn't anywhere near a mess. It was beautifully served in a glass with the raspberries clearly seen. Above that was a good scoop of ice cream with cream on top with a good drizzling of raspberry sauce. It was all topped off with a fan wafer as promised. Now for me the best part it was served with the correct cutlery, a sundae spoon! Normally, you're given a desert spoon or a teaspoon. We'll done on the...
