The coffee shop I visited was an incredibly underwhelming experience, and I feel compelled to share my dissatisfaction. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that this establishment lacked the essential qualities that define a good coffee shop.
Firstly, the ambiance was far from inviting. The lighting was dim, not in a cozy way but more like they forgot to change burnt-out bulbs. The furniture appeared worn out, with scratches and stains visible on every table and chair. It seemed as though no effort had been made to maintain cleanliness or aesthetic appeal. Moreover, the music playing in the background was neither soothing nor appropriate for a coffee shop setting; instead, it felt jarring and out of place.
The service was another major letdown. The staff seemed disinterested and untrained. When I approached the counter to order, it took several attempts to get their attention. Once I finally placed my order, there were numerous mistakes. My drink came out wrong—not once, but twice—and when I politely pointed out the errors, the barista responded with noticeable irritation rather than apologizing or offering a solution. This attitude left me feeling unwelcome and undervalued as a customer.
As for the quality of the coffee itself, it was disappointing. The taste lacked depth and richness, which is crucial for any respectable coffee shop. It tasted watered down, almost as if cost-cutting measures were prioritized over flavor. Additionally, the presentation of the drinks was lackluster. There wasn’t even an attempt at latte art, something that has become standard in most decent cafes today. The pastries accompanying the coffee were equally uninspired, stale, and clearly not homemade.
To make matters worse, the prices were unjustifiably high considering the subpar product and service. Paying premium rates only to receive inferior goods is infuriating and leaves one questioning the value proposition entirely. In conclusion, this coffee shop failed on nearly every front: atmosphere, service, product quality, and pricing. I cannot recommend it to anyone seeking a pleasant coffee experience and will certainly avoid...
Read moreI have been going to the Ace for years. When I lived in the UK I used to buzz by the site on my BSA Bantam and later my old Honda CB250 and regret that it was now a garage type place and no longer the biker's mecca that it once was. I was really pleased when it reopened. I have been going regularly since I re-joined the world of motorcycling in 2008 whenever I am in the UK. Cards on the table, I am a Brit and I know how a good fry up should taste and the Ace has lost its way. I went for breakfast there this morning and about the best I can say is they still make a decent cup of tea. I had the British breakfast and I don't know if the cooks now come from the Ace USA because it was breakfast'ish and what someone without any care would turn out. The black pudding discs could have been small hockey pucks, The mushrooms were tinned and cold and the eggs congealed. The bacon nestled in a pool of grease and the sausages, well I have had better in the USA so that tells you how second rate they were. I would also like more than the derisory (UK derisory, not USA) amount of beans which I think were hand counted onto the plate. Mates of mine in Philly are in the Ton-Up club and when they tell me how bad British cuisine is, I expect they are basing it off culinary experiences after an Ace "British" breakfast. I know you can do better because I have had much better brekkies there. I look forward to my next visit because I am sure things will have improved. Maybe , just maybe, the quality of brekkie today was down to the fact that there were no bikes in the car park so this was a cager's breakfast and you thought you could get...
Read moreTo say I was disappointed would be a major understatement. This place has been in steady decline for the past 10 years or so but the prices of food / drinks became ridiculous now. Price wise they match Central London Expensive Bars and Restaurants, but the quality of food at Ace Cafe is terrible, portions are small and you get the feeling you are being ripped off. Ace serves the cheapest wholesale food you can buy and they really overprice it. Quality is poor to very poor. Prices are out of control and you do NOT get any value for money. £13.55 for the large breakfast which consists 1 Tomato, some warm Mushrooms, 2 Eggs, 1 Sausage, Toast and some Bacon plus a cheap/nasty Coffee / Tea served with Warm Milk left at the Counter is a Total RIP-OFF ! A bottle of beer at £7.20 ? It is beyond belief.
If the food was good I would NOT be writing this comment but it was a very poor quality breakfast at a very high price.
I do not recommend this place to anyone who wants to order food or buy drinks as they will not be happy ... they will certainly feel being ripped off when or after consuming it.
This place would thrive with someone who is passionate about its great history. Quote from another review left by someone else sums it up perfectly : " It's seems it's run purely as a business- my humble suggestion to the owner is choose another business to run, where just making money would be fine for you.
