Simply amazing Indian food with great service from a friendly staff.
Our flight was delayed from Edinburgh to London causing us to miss out flight back home to Denver in the US. British Airways put the four of us up in the Holiday Inn for the night. We decided on Indian food for dinner and found that Achari was only a 10 min walk.
I had always heard about how incredible Indian food was in London, and found this absolutely to be the truth. We have many Indian restaurants in the Denver area, most of which are quite excellent. Nothing compared to our experience at Achari, though.
The waiter recommended several selections, which ended up being perfect...even for my 83 year old mother who had not had Indian food and can't handle much heat at all. We started with a tandoori chicken appetizer. For entrees we went with Butter Chicken, Chicken Korma and Balti Chicken. Add an order of basmati rice, garlic naan, cheese naan and a nice bottle of Shiraz and you have perfection.
The three reasonably priced entrees were more food than four of us could eat, so we were pleased with portion size. We had no room left for desserts, so can't speak to that, but the selection looked amazing.
We finished with some nice masala tea and a nice single malt.
We only spent one evening in London, but this experience at Achari will always be the fondest of our...
Read moreWe were very disappointed at our last visit. We had enjoyed it many times in the past, so two weeks ago we took our friends. They live near and we're looking for a good addition to their regular spot. We returned as a couple and ordered the same dishes as we had many times there before. The difference was I ordered in American accent so the server, not our regular one, first tried to sell us the more expensive cobra in a bottle and we had to insist on kingfisher draft, which was perfect. The dansak had a fraction of the lamb before, it was it all tomato flavor sauce and 3/4 lentils. The garlic Nan was not fluffy, as before. It is sad as we used to enjoy it and would bring friends. All I can think is that they assumed we were tourists who knew no better, had not been before or wouldn't return. They were wrong, except we won't return. Pity the server who would recognize us was not...
Read moreWe have lived in the village for over 30 years the acharie was opened and we liked to support the village always ordered takeaways even after food being cold or not to normal standard we continued but tonight ordered 2 chicken tikka main courses to takeaway priced at just under 14 pounds when ordered to be told now its 17.90 now so again we ordered, when it arrived we only had 1 little pot of riata and 1 little pot of onions for 2 main tikkas we rang and was told you only have 1 riata and have to pay extra for another pot, so we had to share a tiny pot of sauce barely enough. So that was the icing on the cake so we have now decided we wont be ordering from them again, also the bloke seemed not bothered and talked over me, so no more acharie as this is the way you speak to customers who have been using you since opening . Very...
