This pub is a hidden gem, known locally for having incredible food and a traditional local feel. The staff are super friendly, and always take the time to smile and chat with every customer from regulars to first time visitors. A special mention should go to Vinod, the owner, and Rasmita who works on the bar for their attention to customer service. Both are extremely friendly and always have a smile on their face. The menu boasts a range of traditional Indian and Nepalese food, all cooked fresh by their talented chef, and is highly regarded as being some of the finest Asian cuisine that youāll come across. As a regular I have had the pleasure of trying a number of items on the menu and have never been disappointed. This isnāt your run of the mill restaurant where every dish blends into the next - every item on the menu has its own distinct flavours and characteristics, which shows that their chef puts a real emphasis on showcasing what traditional Nepalese/Indian food should taste like! The portion sizes are very generous, the quality is always outstanding, and the prices are great. Iāve paid a lot more for a lot less in certain other local restaurants. I often bring friends to King William to try the food, and Iāve never heard any of them describe their meal as anything less than āthe best Iāve ever hadā, which I think is a very accurate testament to the quality. Blending a restaurant and a pub is not always an easy thing to pull off, but King William do it perfectly. It is always bustling with a mixture of locals catching up over a drink, and families who are out for an evening meal. The atmosphere is homely, upbeat, and never too busy to welcome you in and offer you a table amongst the other happy customers. The pub itself is 16th century and grade II listed so it has a lot of character and charm, with exposed beams throughout the interior giving it a traditional feel. To put simply, the King William is outstanding for all occasions. Whether you are coming for a drink and a chat, or even for a special occasion meal, you are guaranteed a warm welcome and amazing service throughout your visit. If you come once, you will come back. I have no doubts that this place will not be a āhiddenā gem for much longer, and in all honesty the team deserve every bit of recognition for the hard work they have put in to creating such a great...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe ordered on Gumbas online ordering service around 9.05 and was told that delivery was going to be 10.07. This was later updated to 10:17 (which is understandable as it was new years eve). At 10:35 there was no sign of the food so we called to ask for an update. I was put on hold whilst they checked with the kitchen. I was on hold for 10 minutes with no one returning so I hung up and called back......'line busy'. I kept trying but all I got was the busy tone. At 10:50 I decided to drive to the restaurant to find out what was going on as they close at 11:00. I kept calling as I was driving and I did get through, only for the voicemail to kick in after 3 rings. I arrived at the front desk of Gumba and spoke to the staff and asked what was going on. Apparently their phone is malfunctioning and keeps hanging up on customers (despite me being on hold for 10minutes, not being hung up on). I was told the food was almost ready (this was 11:02). I asked why I wasn't informed of the delay as they had my number on the online order. At this point the staff ignored me to deal with other customers. The food eventually came at 11:15 and was handed to me without any apology for the delay, or in the fact that I had to drive to them when it was meant to be delivered. I drove home (7 minute drive) and on eating the starter (chilli chicken), the food was tepid, only just warm. (Why if the food was 'just being made') It was also bland. My wife ordered the chilli paneer and she wasn't too fond of it. The mains (Nepalese curry) was also tepid (although the rice was at least hot) and I had to drain 4 tablespoons of oil off the top before I could eat it. My wife couldn't even finish hers despite being hungry after waiting over 2 hours due to the poor quality and temperature of the food. I'm sure if I didn't make the effort of driving to the restaurant, we would have been left with no food (on new years eve) and also out pocket as they made a concerted effort to ignore me before they closed. The food definitely wasn't...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGood food but very bad wifi.
Wifi is still bad. There are only 2 pubs around here and I come pretty often since I like the food. The male staffs were nice however the female staff was not. It looks like she only smile to white customers. I was here like 100 times over the course of 2 years and she never smiled to me once. When there is little guests, she'd rather pay attention to her phone than guests.
I often spent 20-24Ā£ each time and come 2 times per week. They have TVs with football and that's one of the reason I came. I often choose a table where I can see the TV well. Many times they asked me to move into back room with a very small TV hanging near ceiling to give space to later guests. If I come late and tables are full, I am happy with that. But if I have to give up my seat because later guests have more people than only me. That's not what I paid for.
The pub manager said it's a fair policy and I didnt agree. It's not my problem how they chose to arrange tables and TV places. How about moving those people inside there're many vacant seats and TVs in there as well, arent they? At least they could say sorry (there was a male staff who said that and I was happy to move, but the girl - never) I'll never come to this pub again and I believe they wont miss me.
So for solo guest who'd like to watch football peacefully this is not...
