I had booked a table here for my brothers 21st birthday celebrations and it was thoroughly disappointing. There was a huge delay in between each course, the food was cold and the meat seemed old. The food was stale, cold and not fresh.
There was one lady manning both the bar area as well as the restaurant area with no sufficient help. We had to wait over 40 minutes for a jug of water and when we went to look for the waitress she was sitting in the kitchen casually eating her dinner, no fault of her own as management was clearly trying to cut corners by hiring minimal staff.
The food was served on cold plates, the china was chipped, giant table spoons were given with desert and the knife used for cutting the cake was wrapped around in foil?
There was such a delay between each course that we had to empty and clear up the table ourselves to fasten the process.
It was also very cold in doors and the warm water was not working in the ladies toilets - I had to wash my nephews hands with freezing cold water.
When I called the manager, Pav, the following day to express my concerns he was very rude and put the phone down on me. When I called him back he said he would check the CCTV and get back to me... 3 days later and still no reply.
All in all; not a family friendly restaurant as it was a very loud atmosphere, low quality food, terrible customer service, poor management. BIG NO NO!!!
It was by far the worst experience at a restaurant that I have ever had and this also goes for the other 10 people that were also present. ONLY come here if you want a guaranteed stomach bug the...
Read moreThe food is excellent and great value for money. The staff are attentive and polite and although the building or area aren't high end, this place serves some of the best Punjabi food I've tasted... anywhere.
There were 7 of us, we oredered 3 vegetarian dishes (tarka dal, bindi and saag aloo), 4 meat dishes (mixed grill, methi chicken and saag with lamb), 4 naans and 2 portions of rice. There was more than enough for all of us.
The veg dishes were expertly cooked with individually distinct flavours. Bindi was fresh, dal was creamy yet spicy and the saag was cooked the Punjabi way (slow and long).
The meat was tender with the right amount of seasoning without overpowering the food. Mixed grill included lamb chops, wings, tikka, kebabs, drumsticks. Methi chichen had pieces of boneless white meat and the lamb saag was sublime. All freshly cooked.
The bill including drinks was less than...
Read moreI have been coming to African Queen since I was a child. Was our family go to for a mixed grill and food. It’s changed hands a few times and it’s not been great. Recently I’ve heard it had changed again and everyone has said that the food is as good as the original owner from many years ago.
I have to say that even though the place was really busy. The food and time it took to come out was really poor. We waited 1 hour for food. We ordered the Special mixed grill, Butter chicken, saag paneer and masala chips. The grill was big but really lacked flavour and it was definitely not cooked in a tandoor. The butter chicken was very sweet. The masala chips and saag paneer were decent with nice flavours. Was disappointed after hearing this place has really...
