Typical small restaurant downstairs but holds parties of 15 and above upstairs. Quite narrow and long which then widens to a seating area which can just about stretch to accommodate a small group of 20 So wheelchair access is a bit tricky. Better off ordering takeaway. Food prices have increased ridiculously but sadly failed to increase quantity. I don't expect to be served more bones than meat but that's what you get with the paya. 3 should be the minimum. For the lamb curry get the boneless options and you may find the old lump of gristle and fat but otherwise very tasty and authentic. But a lot depends on the cook of the day. Depending on the chef you will get either curry leaves, too much methi (mustard leaves), mustard seeds where they shouldn't be and bizarrely ajwain making the dish bitter. this strange trend to put ajwain instead of cumin. Be very specific when ordering but unfortunately if the dish has been semi prepared you will have no choice. The kebabs are now less overloaded with methi but again stuck with ajwain instead of cumin. Why is a mystery as the original were balanced with fresh coriander. Saying that I have had an excellent paya and lamb curry. The paneer ticka is a must have starter. The naans are fresh and tasty. I'm beginning to loathe chickpeas as they overwhelm any dish with them (samosa chart - dig around and you may find the vegetable samosa eventually). Gol gappa were a mess by the time home delivered a limp mess not crispy at all and the tamarind chutney too thin. They also seem to have forgotten that they are served with finely chopped spicy potatoes. The keema naan was a soggy mess with lumps of mince falling out when i got it at home. Maybe best eaten fresh and crispy at the restaurant. However overall this is the best punjabi restaurant in the area and i can say that having tried the half dozen in the area. Does offer vegetarian dishes but make sure you mention any requirements spice and heat wise as well any allergies and they will adjust or advise accordingly. Parking here is abominable during day but better after 7pm weekday and better on Sunday as fewer...
Read moreThis place has the most unhygienic conditions I have seen with my own eyes, both in terms of how the food is prepared, and where it is prepared. The shop is located in one of the dirtiest places on the street in Plumstead where living conditions are really poor. To add, the shop owners are arrogant and consider themselves great business people. Business is not just about profits, if your customers are dissatisfied, your business can go down swiftly. I have regularly ordered food from here with the hope that I will get good authentic Indian food that reminds me of my home in India, but food here is just the opposite - oily greasy and unhealthy. Paneer dishes are made distastefully sweet with sugar, there is dripping oil in samosas and veg mains such as bhindi bhaji. Once I didn’t get my order delivered to the right address that I had already been charged for, and when I complained, I didn’t even get an apology. This is the state of business in Ambala, once a popular name for Indian food. I am highly dissatisfied with your service and would give no stars. I would never recommend this place and avoid at all costs, even if I was starving and this was the only place to eat on earth. Thanks for your service to a loyal customer, Ambala...
Read moreFrom the day we saw this place we made up our mind to celebrate our mum’s 60th birthday here in this nice cosy restaurant. The manager Riyan was very warm and receptive and made us feel welcomed and responded to any queries promptly. Our server for the day Mr. Chris was awesome, he made sure every detail discussed previously was executed well and accommodated our requests.
We were given extra hours before the party time to do our own set up as we hired the whole top floor. Chris made sure the cutleries were placed the way we wanted. We were allowed to play our own music and were dancing our way throughout the party as Chris took care of the catering and other arrangements for us.
The food was delicious and well presented. All the guest relished the food and had only good word to say about it. They don’t serve alcohol but you can get your own drinks.
We had a fabulous party just the way we wanted. All thanks to Riyan, Chris and Ambala Karahi Chefs. Our simple gathering was turned into unforgettable affair filled with laughter and memories.
Only advice would be to make sure you get the Guest count right along with the server or the manager before the...
