A really lovely French Bistro, reasonably priced with mouth watering food, unexpected quality in Penge!
This was a really nice surprise to discover in Penge. Tucked away in a side street, just off the High Street is Bistro Chez Eve. The outside of the restaurant doesn't look like much and it doesn't reflect the quality of the restaurant.
Inside the restaurant you are transported to France. There is a great selection of proper French food offered inside a dimly lit open space with a few rustic tables to sit at.
We were served by a lovely French waiter who was very attentive and yet unobtrusive. He was very helpful in recommending appropriate wines to pair with meals.
The food that we had was exquisite. The duck was so tender, slipping off the bone easily and full of flavour. My potato's were crisp and also full of flavour. The turbet was served with a sauce that complimented and didn't mask its flavour. I didn't get to try the third dish. All of the food was presented well.
The improvement that could be made here is the addition of better toilet facilities. In covid times an addition of paper towels in the toilet and working taps is...
Read moreVery sad to give this to this place, but my visit Tuesday evening was very unpleasant. It was mostly because of service or rather luck of communication from lady she was serving. The waiting time for main course was about half hour what she should mention before she take order. The place wasn't busy ,2 tables only so as a customer you can't imagine that will take so long. I was left all this time with glass of wine, No any suggestions from waitress about small starter to order, as it take so.long to have main course. She was mostly hidden behind the bar so if you want communicate with her you have to get up and go to find her. As a main course came my glass of wine was empty, no questions if I would like to have any other drink. And on top of this, 19.50 £ Rainbow trout come only with rice, no any vegetables. So as I asked what about any vegetables the lady said it's coming like that and that's it Finish explanation. I wonder wchich restaurant is serving main course without veg and not even propose them as a side order. Really ...
Read moreWow! - a gem of place. It's the first time we've been here (tonight, Monday) and will be coming back soon. Nice ambiance, and quality food, with decent portions (but not too big thankfully). I had the Tartiflette and my partner had the Saumon Fume (gallete). Both were fantastic. When the friendly waitress/owner(?) came round to ask how it was going, all I could do was nod. For dessert I had the Alaska crepe and vanilla ice cream, with the Cointreau on the crepe lit by the waitress. Hands down the best crepe I've had so far. My partner had the Creme Brulle, which she thought was great. It didn't stop her scraping the remainder of the Cointreau and ice cream...
