Having first seen this little cafe on Instagram, and following their delicious posts for a while, I knew I had to make the journey from Hertfordshire just to try! The cafe itself is on a main road and is easy to find. Walking in, I was struck by how cozy and homely it was - like a friend's living room - I was not disappointed! The lovely owner behind the counter was very approachable and seemed grateful for every customer.
The menu is unfussy and has the traditional favorites that one might expect to find in a typical HK cafe. They also rotate some special items such as char sui and custard tarts. I proceeded to order the HK milk tea, beef curry and chili oil dumplings.
The tea was strong and sweet - perfect, as were the chili oil dumplings. The beef curry and rice arrived and was absolutely delicious - a very unique and deep flavored curry, finished with a little cream. Bear in mind, this is nothing like the anemic flavorless Chinese curry you find in your local takeaway - proper HK curry from Blue Sheep is on another level. You can tell they guard the recipe for this sauce extremely well! I did try to ask for some hints as to whether it was a paste or powder or both as I would love to re-create this at home.
After a lovely chat with the owner about HK and Asia in general, it was time to leave. All in all, definitely worth the journey! I will be back! Thank you very much to the owner for the delicious food and fine hospitality and...
Read moreThis HK restaurant has only been open since June this year and is run by a husband and wife team. We got a few different dishes to takeaway to try and share between us. If you love Hong Kong food, you need to give them a go!
The HK style style coconut curry beef with rice was maybe the number one dish. The Portuguese coconut chicken with rice was also very nice. The baked pork chop rice in tomato sauce with melted cheese on top was marvellous, but not as saucy as you might expect (however, this might be a drawback when you get takeaway as the dish will cool and the sauce will start to thicken). We liked the dan dan noodles with pork chop, which was a little spicy. The noodles were the Taiwanese knife cut ones. The chilli oil wontons were ok. The ku lou chicken (sweet and sour chicken) was on point.
Unfortunately we couldn't order egg tarts. They make them when they can, but as it's usually quite busy on the weekends they recommend pre ordering them during the week (for the same day).
We thought we must come to try the HK style French toast, which is a dine-in only option.

Read moreSo I saw on social media this poping up quite a few times and coming from Hong Kong I have a soft spot for the food you got in the HK cafes. This was a wonderful experience the chap runs it with his wife snd the food is delicious. I felt an instant rush of nostalgia. I felt like a teenager with friends after school eating in a HK cafe. Food was soot on, freshly made. The Portuguese chicken curry was rich, the baked porkchop rice was full of flavour, pork was tender and had that melted cheese. The fish balls were sold out. The baked fish in a cream sauce was sold out. Taiwanese beef noodles big chunks of meat and the soup was rich and so very very good. Egg tarts sold out. The French toast was crispy and divine. Gosh were so full. My partner loved it as she has been to Hong Kong and loved the mix of west and Chinese styles. I highly recommend here. Enjoy. Please press like if you enjoyed my review.
Just needs a toilet for it...
