Sorry to leave a bad review for this cafe we have been going to for a long time. After the rude behaviour of staff today, I had to. It is a cafe looks like child friendly but today they showed a typical example of SHAME culture. The waitress Christina and her friend disappointed us. My friend and I went there with our 2-year-old toddlers. There were 3 other tables (4 people) inside and 1 table outside with customers. Not very busy, but from the moment we went in, the staff was unfriendly. We felt that we were a burden to them! Our kids had too much energy and were loud (2-year-olds!!), so we decided to leave the cafe instead of eating in and asked for takeaway food. While waiting for the food, Christina said an old customer was reading his book with hearing difficulty, so we needed to keep control of the kids' voices. That gentleman didn't even say a word while this happened, and none of the other customers. It was an unnecessary comment as we were already waiting for the food to leave and an impossible ask (everyone who has 2 year old kid knows what I mean)! This is a cafe where I often go to read my book (while my kid is taking her nap), but I never assumed it was a library. I leave when it is too loud for me, or I think my girl will wake up from other kids' noise. I also know that it is not a playground. That's why we decided to leave instead of having lunch there. Christina was staring at me with really mean looks. I asked her why she was giving me those looks. My friend was also shocked and told Christina that she was very rude and canceled her takeaway order. This cafe has some toys for customers with kids. We go there after my child's ballet class on Saturdays with other mums. It clearly gives an impression like a child friendly cafe but today their staff Christina just wanted us to feel mum SHAME. And I am not going to feel that to please her. She said she had to think about the customers around and I said we were customers also and she lost many...
Read moreWas so disappointed by my visit. Heard great things and was excited to try. Arrived at 2.30 with 3 kids and 2 prams. Found a space and got settled. Went to order but told what I wanted was sold out. No problem it's later in the day. Although the shop doesnt close until 4. The server was polite and apologetic. Then another staff member comes out to inform us that there is no bread. At all. So the majority of their menu is unavailable. I wonder if perhaps more bread could be obtained from the supermarket next door but am hungry and didn't want to be rude to server who was apologetic. We asked if it was worth staying and was told we were better off elsewhere. This surprised me and I felt perhaps they just didn't want to serve us as it was nearer the end of the day. So we decided to leave gathering up children and prams and walking through the cafe full of people enjoying food feeling disappointed, a little rejected and wondering whether it would be worth coming back at all. I know that stock levels are not something that can always be controlled but on reflection, feel that the situation could have been handled better, such as letting us know the majority of the menu was unavailable as we arrived. I hope I will get to try this cafe again in the future as the food I saw looked good but I'd advise all to come much earlier if you want anything...
Read moreHave been stalking Bob's Your Uncle daily since Christmas last year whilst they were getting the cafe ready for customers and finally got the chance to visit last week. A wonderful and much needed edition to the Eltham coffee and café scene! Beautiful speciality coffee, great tasting breakfast/brunch dishes and great selection of pastries and cakes. Would highly recommend the banoffee bun (very indulgent) and the mushrooms on toast with poach eggs, delicious! The staff are super friendly and service is spot on, the café itself is a great place to relax and unwind and could happily spend a few hours here.
Would definitely recommend giving Bob's Your Uncle a visit if you're into your coffee (blended and single origin) and like the simple but tasty brunch dishes. No need to head to Blackheath anymore for this now that Eltham is on the rise thanks to...
