I have been a few times now to the Village inn so my review is not based on a single experience. The food is excellent, especially the Momos. Each time I have dined (4th time now) it has been seated in the restaurant. The menu is very varied making decision difficult and as the dishes are not always recognisable to your usual Indian fare assistance is sought from the staff. Ther have never been very knowledgable of the actual dish to be confortable to answer questions. Twice now they couldn’t even answer if the spice level was hot. I asked if a dish I was choosing was comparable to a Madras level of heat he simple replied as per the menu. On one occasion where I dined alone with my wife items appeared on the bill we did not have, corrected immediately but nevertheless less observant diners may have been overcharged. One the same occasion my wife’s card was debited twice for the same bill. When we spoke to the restaurant they advised it will be sorted but with no immediacy about them. The bank sorted it. The last visit we we’re in a large group of 11 and requested to keep things simple to split the bill as per table (3), they advised they could not do this? Ridiculous! We ended up in the restaurant for over 2 hours waiting for our meals. This was either to take more drink money or as I suspect, the kitchen was being overrun with Deliveroo orders as well as their direct orders as we could see a steady stream of takeaways and pickups passing through.
Overall the food is excellent but they need to be bettter organised. I won’t be returning as I feel I have tried but they are not teething issues of this new restaurant. I wish them well as the food is good.
Update Feb 2023
I revisited the Village Inn last week at a friends choice. I was pleasantly surprised as the level of service has greatly improved. The waiter on duty (11/03) was pleasant, engaging and knew the menu well. The food was exceptional (as always) and the experience was great. Well done Mike for the improvement.
As a result, I have updated my rating to 4 stars and will...

During my recent visit to Village Eat Inn in Eltham, I was treated to an exceptional dining experience that left a lasting impression. The service, led by Vijay and his attentive team, was exemplary. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and prompt attention, setting the tone for a delightful evening.
The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the Paneer Butter Masala. The chef crafted this classic dish to perfection, balancing the rich, creamy sauce with the delicate flavors of paneer. Each bite was a testament to the chef's skill and dedication to authentic Indian cuisine. The dish was aromatic, with just the right amount of spice, making it a comforting and flavorful choice.
The ambiance of the restaurant was inviting, with a cozy atmosphere that made us feel right at home. The decor was tasteful, reflecting a blend of traditional and contemporary styles, which added to the overall charm of the place.
Overall, Village Eat Inn in Eltham is a gem for anyone looking to enjoy delicious Indian food in a welcoming setting. Kudos to Vijay, his team, and the talented chef for making our dining experience so memorable. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone...

The best Indian food I've eaten in South East London., especially in SE9. I have tried various places and boycotted ordering Indian food, as it is so bad, until now. Village Inn has changed this. I would not order from anywhere else.
I am not getting paid for this review, although I feel I should be.
Order the Hydrabadi Chicken Dum biryani - very good and you can tell is been prepared in a "Dum". Google it, if you do not know what "Dum" means, in Indian culinary terms.
The Butter Chicken is the best I have had in South East London by a country mile. It's "Proper" The naan's are freshly prepared and soft as they should be.
I ordered the plain naan. Goes wonderfully with the butter chicken.
Oh and the Tarka dhal was awesome too. Highly recommended it. Not too spicy and beautifully balanced.
All in all, order from here you will not be disappointed.
The only question is whether Village Inn can continue to prepare food to this incredibly...
