I have been a loyal customer for over 15 years and am still shocked at how I was treated the last time I visited with a friend for a drink and cake. I ordered an iced matcha latte and mentioned that the last time I ordered one it had cinnamon (I ordered one before that which didn’t have) so the lady serving said ‘she would do her best’. When I received the drink I could see it had cinnamon floating and could taste it. I then questioned if maybe she misunderstood and thought I said to add cinnamon so politely went to the counter with my drink and asked if maybe that was the case as it had the cinnamon. She started to argue with me saying it didn’t have cinnamon and she didn’t add any. I said ok but it has the cinnamon to which she started becoming aggressive arguing that it doesn’t have it and the other lady who made the drink also started to argue and say its pure matcha and that she has it and knows its pure, I explained that I am a matcha expert who makes the drink myself and also have it regularly and can understand that this has cinnamon but maybe the mix already has it added and showed them the specks of cinnamon floating at the top. They carried on arguing saying no thats just the matcha powder! The lady who I understand is actually the manager shouted ‘if you dont like it just leave the drink here and I will refund you!’. I said its fine as I wasn’t trying to make any trouble but they seemed to have wanted to cause a scene. I just sat back down with the drink talking with my friend when she perused to follow me with a card machine and ask my friend to tap her card to get a refund for the drink! My friend said its fine but she said no if she doesn’t like the drink I have to refund you. Again my friend said its fine leave it as everyone was looking at us. She still insisted so my friend tapped her card then she grabbed the drink from in front of me aggressively and walked off! My friend and I stood up to leave as we felt uncomfortable, she said bye to my friend and didn’t even look acknowledge me. I cannot believe I was treated like this and I will never go...

I remember when this shop used to be Lucas as it was when I first moved to East Dulwich. Jade Boulangerie had another shop on Barry road nearer where I lived at the time. Given I had already sampled the amazing tasting cakes and breads I was happy to learn they were expanding to the larger more prominent spot on lordship lane (although they did close their Barry road shop shortly after opening at their new site on LL).
I haven't found anywhere better for cakes in London, this is no exaggeration. The selection is great if you get there first thing. Their bread select is impressive too. I would say their coffee is nice but not as good as other cafes around in the area (it's still very nice coffee).
I regularly visit JB and have done since it opened, over the years we have taken lots of visitors here and there breads and cakes...
Read moreCute place, aesthetically pleasing with all the pastries and breads at the front of the shop. There are better places to go in East Dulwich for an eat in dining experience.
Firstly the back of the establishment where the dining area is placed is in dire need of drapes and soft furnishings to help with the awful acoustics - you’d get a much better vibe back there. That many people squashed together chatting away with noting but walls for the noise to bounce off and you can’t hear your server or vice versa. Requests for water forgotten. I had to go any get my own menu after waiting ten minutes. Coffee was nice, although milk was also forgotten. Stickers from the oranges in our juice. Food was tasty, Brie and mushroom tartette was nice; the goats cheese one delicious. Marble cake very dry. Felt underwhelmed and...
