A new contender for Dulwich's finest.

First impressions are obviously not everything - but Spinach makes a leafy, verdant and friendly one. Gorgeous pot plants and the fairly de facto post-industrial fittings greet you as you walk in, and it adds up to a cosy, welcoming environment.

The staff reinforce this. Big smiles and attentive, helpful service from the owner and her team.

Let's get down to the heart of the matter. You'll be coming here for coffee and brunch, or lunch most likely. The coffee is great - what more is there to say?

And the food?

My first eat here was the homemade granola with a lemony kick and a sumptuously poached pear. I'm vegan, so they subbed the yoghurt for a little bottle of almond milk with no fuss. The granola itself was chunky, crunchy, rich and filling. The pear was generously sized, perfectly al dente (if you can apply that term to a pear...) and tasty as all hell. For approx. £5 I was very satisfied.

Following that another day I had lunch, which comprises of a choice of fresh salads and your choice of protein. I had the sweet potato and spinach with a coconut glaze as the salad (naturally vegan, natch) with the sweet chili tofu 'protein'. I also had a side of chips.

It was basically all equally delicious. Rich but not overpowering, the sweet potato was a generous portion again, but the chili tofu really stole the show. It's such a risky business tofu, but these were huge, crunch on the outside soft on the outside and resolutely full of flavour. The combo ran me to £7 ish, (London!) but again frankly I was happy when the tofu (usually skimped on) was so good and plentiful. The chips...the chips!! Fries style but on the chunky side, the right amount of crisp bite - again, a generous pot full, and served with an artisanal brand-name (that I forget) smoky ketchup. All told, I was looking at a bill of approx. £15 for my amazing meal and a couple of coffees.

In summary:

• Food: A • Service: A • Decor: A • Price/value: B+ • Vegan options/flexibility: B+

Overall: An easy recommendation, one of, if not THE most stylish, tasty (and generally loud-baby free) cafe/restaurants in...

My friend and I were treated horribly by a member of staff at this restaurant today. When we arrived I went inside to ask if a table for two was available while my friend waited outside as the restaurant was busy. While I was inside a group of several people arrived and stood wait outside. An available table was confirmed and my friend came inside and we were asked to follow our host to the table. He was a few steps ahead of us and on the way to the table another employee stopped us in our tracks and asked if “we were alright” as if we were intruding. After we confirmed we were being shown a table she then asked us to stay put while she validated our statement, only to come back - and now with a smile- after talking to her colleague to confirm we were correct and she wanted to check as people outside - the ones who arrived after us- were waiting. We felt so much disgust at our treatment that we had to leave immediately. As a LOCAL of the area our treatment was a disappointing, hurtful and embarrassing representation of what is otherwise a great neighborhood. Customer service is paramount and no one should be treated...

I felt compelled to write this having seen the utterly ridiculous and frankly pathetic review from the anonymous J. Another anonymous keyboard warrior who takes no responsibility for their actions and seeks to dent a brilliant local business that adds a huge amount to our community. Apart from the wonderful latte, great service and welcoming smile that greets me everyday this business owner (who I don't know) employs local people, buys local produce and works tirelessly to create a lovely environment for us all to enjoy. They pay their rent, business rates, local taxes and all employer PAYE costs before they can even dream about paying themselves a decent wage and most likely pay off debts occurred during the massively difficult Covid and post Covid years. As a community in SE22 we should all celebrate people that seek to make their own way and carve out a business, especially in these challenging times. I'll see you in the morning for my coffee team! Keep up the great work and please ignore these idiots who are most likely gluing themselves to a road rather than...

Staff were friendly, we were sat on a table in front of what i can only describe as their cleaning corner. All the pastroed were left in the open no covers woth everyone talkong ovwr them. I had breakfast here with my 3 children including a toddler we ordered avocado on toast with fish fingers, they received half a slice of sourdough toast some thin slices of avocado and 1 fish finger my youngest got half a slice of toast scrambled egg and 1 fish finger. They also had vanilla milkshakes which tasted like milk and some type of syrup tasted like chemicals I had avocado on toast some mushrooms and 2 slices of halloumi a chai latte and it costs £50 !!!! Nothing had any taste they never even butterd the toast I had to add lots of salt and pepper my mushrooms tasted like charcoal garlic. They gave my children plastic plates and cutlery that were bitten up from IKEA. Definitely wouldn't go again overpriced and underwhelmed not worth it at wouldn't recommend. better off going to Plough down the road half the cost and reasonably priced

One of my favourite spots for brunch in East Dulwich. Great coffee and the food is amazing. My favourite dish is the sweetcorn fritters. They’re perfectly crispy and served with a refreshingly contrasting tzatziki. Crushed avocado on top is a real treat, and there’s an option of perfectly crispy bacon or grilled halloumi. Also good are the spinach pancakes — my mum hasn’t stopped making them since a visit here several years ago! Staff are always friendly and there’s plenty of outdoor seating on a warm day. The restaurant is larger than it looks from the outside — there’s a small upstairs tucked away right at the back. A must-visit spot for brunch if you’re in the area for a day or two!
