Came for lunch yesterday at a very quiet time. First time at this location after 10+ visits in Commercial Street over the years. When arrived the only waiter in the house told me to sit where I want. I noticed the waiter was talking loudly with the only other guest in the restaurant so I tried to go for next room, but he stopped me with a 'I would prefer you sat here'. Customer is always right? apparently not this time. The other room was just next to kitchen, so it wasn't a unreasonable request. I did not feel like insisting so I sat where he wanted me to sit. Food arrived quickly. Lasagna was nice, however the Pizza was a massive let down. Too greasy. Yes, it was a cheeseburger Pizza but still, grease was dripping way too much. For a comparison I had tried the Double Cheeseburger Pizza at the other location and it was simply a lot better. Not so greasy but yet way more loaded with ingredients. The bottom of the Pizza was not as crunchy, possibly because it was served on a plate and not on a grill dish like the other location. As I am eating this very juicy and way too greasy Pizza the server decides to sit in the table next to mine to fold Pizza boxes. Due to the table configuration this meant he was facing me as he was doing that. There was literally 10 other empty tables but for some reason he needed to be that close to me. Later on he started to sing loudly to some songs they were playing at the restaurant and he yawned very loudly stretching his arms multiple times. Finally He sat on the stools at the counter and put his feet and dirty shoes in the stools where customers are meant to be seated. Then again, I don't usually stare at the workers as I eat, but if you start folding Pizza boxes next to me, and you sing and yawn loudly, then you probably attract too much attention, that's what happened there. There is a fine line between a casual service (which I'm all good with) and unprofessional service. He went way over the line. Shame, because the location at Commercial Street is my favourite...
Read moreI’m quite familiar with the Spitafields branch so when I had the chance to finally visit their restaurant in Islington, I was very excited!
Food was great but unfortunately the service we had was awful.
I know Detroit is supposed to be a casual experience so I don’t expect a "Michelin star" service/overly too friendly staff, but the waiter/server we had ended up ruining my day and made me anxious to ever come back in the future. The server we had was tall with a dirty-blonde hair (and maybe slight facial hair).
When we arrived and asked for a table, to an empty restaurant, he made it seem like we was bothering him. We asked him about some of the newer dishes that they don’t have in Spitafields and he just seemed annoyed that we were even asking. Barely 3/4 done with our food, he asked if we wanted to take away the rest it… it seemed like he was rushing us to leave, even though the restaurant was still very much empty with 2 or 3 occupied tables. Every time he interacted with us, he gave us attitude or was passive aggressive with us like he was being forced to work there.
It’s such a shame because even though the Spitafields branch is an order at the till service, the people at the till are always friendly, with a smile and seem happy to help us with any dietary/menu questions. Even the chefs at the back, making the food, will smile at us and even say hello to us.
I know this doesn’t apply to every front of house staff at Islington but he was the only one who served us and was the only server on the floor. I understand everyone has those days and the server was probably having a rough day but I don’t think that’s a reason to take it out on customers.
As someone who suffers with anxiety, this experience has (unfortunately) put me off from returning to Islington.
Once again, food was great but the service, at that...
Read moreA Gourmet Journey through Detroit Pizza Islington
Step into Detroit Pizza Islington, and prepare to embark on a culinary journey that tantalizes the taste buds and leaves you craving for more. My friends and I recently dined here, eager to explore the diverse menu, and we were not disappointed.
Let's start with the star of the show – the Detroit pizza. From the first bite, it's evident that this pizza is not your average fare. The dough, light and airy like a heavenly cloud, provides the perfect canvas for the masterpiece that follows. The crisp cheese edges add a delightful contrast to the softness of the dough, while the unique cheese blend, crafted by a skilled chef, elevates the pizza to gourmet status.
But the delights don't end there. We indulged in a variety of appetizers, each offering its own burst of flavor. The Buffalo wings, fried to perfection, were accompanied by a sauce that was nothing short of amazing. And then there was the deep-fried lasagna – a revelation in itself. It's safe to say that it ranks among the best dishes I've ever had the pleasure of tasting.
In every dish we tried, it was evident that attention to detail and culinary expertise were at the forefront. Each bite was a testament to the skill and passion of the chef behind the scenes.
In conclusion, Detroit Pizza Islington offers a gourmet experience that is not to be missed. Whether you're a pizza aficionado or simply someone in search of exceptional American cuisine, this establishment delivers on every front. Prepare to be dazzled, delighted, and ultimately,...
