Really sad writing this, but we had a very disappointing experience. My partner & I had been here a few times over a year ago and had some lovely food.
Not sure if the chef has changed or if we were just unlucky, but the food last night was a big let down.
We ordered the white wine muscles and the prawns as starters. The muscles tasted SO bad we had to return them. Not sure if it was the sauce or the actual muscles that tasted off, but it was impossible to eat. The prawn starter didn’t taste that good either. The person who assisted us was very understanding and apologetic and admitted that the muscles did not taste right. However, I’m not sure why the chef didn’t taste them before serving them.
Then the mains arrived. Both me and my partner ordered pasta, but my partner got served a risotto instead. Apparently the names of the two dishes were very similar, but he did specifically order pasta and there was never a mention of a risotto. Mistakes happen, so we weren’t too bothered about this, they apologised and started preparing his pasta. We decided to share my dish until his was ready. The pasta really didn’t taste good either, the vegetables were raw and there was hardly any sauce and the whole dish had no flavour.
We both agreed it was time to leave. We had never walked out of a restaurant before, but we really didn’t want to eat any more of the pasta and the whole dinner experience had been ruined. We explained and paid for the prawn starter and the drinks and left.
I have to say the staff were lovely and tried their best to accommodate which made our decision to leave harder. However, I do think that the food was unacceptable and we made the right choice leaving and I don’t think we would...
Read moreGoing to an Italian restaurant is always a lottery. It could be fantastic or it could be a really bad experience. Well, I am glad to say that La Divina. is a great, extremely beautiful and original Italian restaurant managed by a Turkish man.
This is going to be the first of 2 reviews of this restaurant. The reason is because I decided to give the Lunch 3 course menu a go. £13.95 for a 3 course menu deserve a try and a mention. Bear in mind that many average Italian restaurants sale a single dish of boring pasta for more than that amount.
The second review will be a proper dinner “a la Carte” options.
We were 3 friends and all of us ordered different options form the 3 course lunch menu and was surprisingly good for the price.
We were beautifully served by Ciara, Sicilian waitress who was extremely attentive and helpful. Food was beautifully presented and really tasty. We paired our food with a bottle of Primitivo Italian red wine and we loved it too.
The decoration of the restaurant is just simply outstanding! I loved it so much and I cannot wait to bring my wife for a dinner.
This time has been my second time in this restaurant but the first one after management changed and I can strongly confirm that the quality has been improved. Last time I had a tasteless risotto but this was 6 years ago.
In Angel area, you can find many restaurants to choose. If you fancy Italian food this is, without any doubt, a great option. Keep posted for the next review about the options from the main menu.
Bon Appetit...
Read moreMy favourite restaurant! Since my first visit, fifteen years ago, I have had such wonderful experiences here..for birthdays, with friends, dates, and often on my own. As a woman I feel so welcome and comfortable dining alone.. the staff are exceptionally friendly and attentive. The food is by far the best Italian food I’ve had outside of Italy. The kitchen staff are very considerate of allergies .. mine is with eggs.. I have always felt fantastic after eating here. There are genuinely beautiful people working here .. This is a privately owned authentic Italian gem, and have an exceptional hidden outside courtyard, so you can enjoy a leisurely and delicious meal on Upper Street, without actually sitting on the street. Inside is as cosy and uniquely beautiful as you could hope from such an authentic restaurant.. stunning photos fill the walls with beautiful film stars and musicans from many decades. With genuinely exceptional food.. staff that have become like friends, and an atmosphere and ambience that makes you feel at home. I am writing this review after all these years, because La Davinas so deserves to be recognised. The new manageress Victoria is the epitome of warm and genuine hospitality, and has raised the bar even higher! If you are lucky enough to meet Ciara, she will treat you like a long lost friend.. all the staff are so lovely, thank you to all! This is my genuine review of my favorite...
