Last week when I was out and about, I spotted this new restaurant chain from Turkey offering Tantuni so as a foodie I had to find out what it was. Tantuni comes from Mersin city, it is meat served with parsley and raw onions, sumac and tomatoes. There are quite a few places in London but I chose to try my first ever Tantuni at Durak Tantuni which is in the middle of no where especially when I don't live in that area but since I was having lunch in Farringdon, it was easy to travel there. The nearest tube station is Turnpike Lane Station where it is a 10 minute walk or three stops on the bus. Arriving at Durak Tantuni, I was greeted with a counter where you could see the meat in the pan looking moist, chopped salads etc. I asked to see a menu and was told that Tantuni was the only item they serve which cost £4 each. Having had lunch, I only ordered one to start. The guy did his magic, he put the wrap literally on top of the meat to moisten it with the meat juices until it was evenly covered, then he filled it with the meat, parsley and raw onions. The pan was literally where he wrapped it all up!!!!! There was tomato as well but I didn't fancy any because I wanted the parsley to be more prominent. When it was served, there was a plate of lemon and chillis which I wasn't sure if it was charged but there were so many lemon piece to my delight because I love it super acidic which makes it appetizing. Taking, a bite the Tantuni was just as delicious as imagined, meaty pieces, refreshing lemon, grassy parsley and crunchy onions so every mouthfeel was heaven. For every bite, I squeezed a wedge of lemon which made me hungrier hence ordering another one. The wrap was soft and thin like the ones they use at GDK and tastes like a lahmacun which also has the same ingredients but not wrapped up. At Durak, they use lamb shoulder meat which is tender and juicy, again it was good quality meat as you don't see or chew on some nasties like fat, sinew or bones. Overall, I was so glad I went all the way to try this because it was my first and...
Read moreBeen going here for years and the prices have seem to go up and up every year , soon they will be Charging £5 a wrap , My rating is based on price its way overprice-specially according to the area ( run down part of West green Road), they charge £3.50 a wrap currently and a wrap only last 2 bites its a very thin small wrap with some finely chopped meat and salad, which properly cost them no more then 30-40p each to make as there is hardly any meat in the wraps maybe one or two pinches if your lucky , and i guarantee u will have an upset belly the next day especially if you opt for chilly or eat a few of the green peppers they provide , the tantuni is not bad its quite tasty but for the price it is a rip of , you will need a minimum of 5-10 wraps to touch the sides if your hungry , defo something to try but for the price not ideal if your very hungry more of a snack and prob not worth going there with your mates if your all hungry we went with 4 people had about 6 small wraps each and a drink payed around £100 and still left not full , considering you can go up the road to Green lanes and pay £30-£50 for mix kebab which will feed up to 6 people with a load of different meats in the platter etc Doner, Adana, chicken and meat shishs, lamb ribs , Lamb chops, chicken wings rices and salads , starters and breads for around £30-50 and you will leave stuffed ,...
Read moreWe ordered two tantuni to takeaway on our first visit. We had travelled 30 min as we were excited to try it.
The restaurant was not busy when we walked in and the meat was sitting out at room temp. That made us a bit nervous, and the person making our wraps also added the toppings (finely diced raw tomatoes, onions and herbs) with their bare hands, no gloves or a spoon was used. We did not see him wash his hands before. After we saw him wash with only water. Again, this made us nervous.
We weren’t offered the lemons or chillis. Not sure why not. We felt the wraps tasted pretty good with the bread being the best part. We felt it needed a sauce like something spicy and sour.
The next day we felt stomach ache. Probably wouldn’t go back unfortunately.
I think spoons should be used and storing food at the correct temperature. Although they have a food hygiene rating of 4 out of 5, I felt we got hygiene...
