Zero stars for this branch of Euphorium I'm afraid. For years we put up with the smelly unattended toilets because it was convenient and across the road from my daughter's school. Despite the average soggy salads and the hit and miss food. But today, the tall, young blonde waiter patronised my husband in such a sneery objectionable way that we have decided to boycott your mediocre establishment for good. My husband walked into an empty shop and ordered a sausage roll for our seven year old daughter. While he waited for the roll to be heated up, he leaned against the bench nearest to the doorway. He was only slightly making contact with the bench standing in an upright position when the heavily accented blonde waiter with the unfortunate manner abruptly approached him saying, "Can I ask you a personal question? Do you sit on your tables at home?" His manner was so surly and unprofessional that my husband had to ask him to repeat himself as he thought that maybe he had misunderstood his attitude and hostility. But sadly, he hadn't. What ever happened to asking your paying clients politely if they wouldn't mind moving away from the furniture? What happened to respectful service and courtesy? Making a client feel so uncomfortable in a place we attend and spend money in almost every day, cannot be good business. Suddenly the smelly dirty toilets and the soggy salads coupled with this treatment added up to a big and easy resolution to simply go to any other number of cafes in our neighbourhood. Why on earth would anyone want to pay for the privilege of having such surly rude service. We go to cafes to escape the drudge of life not to be belittled and patronised by frustrated sad little despots who let...
Read morePopped into the bakery today. I was appalled by the customer service. The staff behind the counter was very miserable and I had to catch her attention so I can be served. She was washing up a load of dishes in a small sink. Didn’t look very clean and hygienic. I’m glad I wasn’t eating in. I’d be concerned. I ordered 2 hazelnut chocolate flavour Crodots for takeaway and a cappuccino. Got my pastries packed and my cappuccino was made by another barista. I watched her making my coffee and I can say half of my coffee didn’t go in my cup and went into the dispenser tray of the coffee machine as the other half of the spout wasn’t aimed in the cup and went into the coffee machine dispenser so technically I was given a drink which was milky and could barely taste any coffee as part of the coffee which was being extracted had gone into waste. It tasted more like a weaker taste of latte . I didn’t feel comfortable telling the barista as she was busy talking to her colleague and they didn’t seem friendly. Shame as the bakery do amazing pastries and bread. Maybe they can train their staff . I wasn’t given a bag to carry my pastries and had to ask for one. Not sure how I was going to hold 2 boxes of pastries and a hot drink. On the plus side the Crudots were amazing and would highly...
Read moreEmphorium Bakery on Upper Street while a good alternative to the neighbourhood Starbucks and Cafe Nero offers bland food and a inconsistent slow service.
The interior is split across two levels, with the main street level offering six to seven tables part of a cold and impersonal space. The lower ground offers more personality and comfort, with leather sofas and a long wooden table at the end of the room. Emphorium Bakery offers a fast free wifi connection without having to give away your personal details including your email like other establishments.
While there is a good variety of options including freshly baked bread, patisserie & small cakes, croissants and cookies, sanwiches and salads, the preparation is bland. The salad I ordered was way to cold and lacked any seasoning or taste. With that said, the croissant was fresh and spongy. Price was it is more expensive by 15% than Starbucks and Cafe Nero.
The service is an area for major improvement given it is slow and cues tend to build quickly. Upon arriving to my table of choice there was two plates and a coffee left from the previous customer which had not been cleared for a while. Euphorium Bakery hours are convinient, being open Monday - Friday from 7am to 8pm and Saturday & Sunday...
