We recently had the pleasure of visiting Harlem in New Malden, and we have to say, it was an absolutely fantastic experience! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the staff and felt right at home.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was modern and chic, with a stylish interior design that was both comfortable and inviting. The lighting was just right, creating a cozy ambiance that was perfect for a night out with my partner, however, it is also great for groups too. But let's talk about the food!
The menu offered a wide range of options, from classic dishes with a modern twist to innovative creations that I had never seen before. Everything was beautifully presented, with a clear attention to detail that showcased the skill and creativity of the chefs. I started with the hot buffalo wings, which was tender and flavorful, perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection.
It was served with homemade blue cheese dressing. My perference would have been Ranch dressing. I noted this to the server who kindly mention she would pass my suggestion to the Chef.
For my main course, I had half a rack of ribs and a serving of Greek Salad. The ribs was cooked to perfection, juicy and tender, with a depth of flavor that was absolutely delicious and the Greek Salad was a great portion, value for money. My partner had the classic burger and it was great!
The service was also impeccable, with attentive and knowledgeable servers who were happy to offer recommendations and answer any questions I had about the menu. The wine list was impressive as well, with a variety of options to suit every taste and budget. They also cater to non alcoholics. I had a delicious non alcoholic mojito and was served in a mug, great value for money!
Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience. Its a fun place. From the stylish and buzzy ambiance to the delicious food and impeccable service, it truly exceeded my expectations in every way. I can't wait to go back and try more of their...
Read moreSince this restaurant opened a few weeks ago we have visited twice: once for breakfast and once for an evening meal.
DINNER The first time we visited the place was quite chaotic and staff didn’t really know what was happening which we thought was totally acceptable considering they had only been open a few days. We ordered two pizzas which were okay. They weren’t great quality and they don’t really have many options suitable for vegetarians or vegans, apart from the basic veggie burger or vegan cheese alternative on a pizza. There was nothing wrong with the pizzas, they were nice just nothing special and definitely not what you would expect for a higher price point.
BREAKFAST Today we had breakfast. It wasn’t a very good experience. Firstly like I previously mentioned there aren’t enough vegan options. We ordered pancakes, juice and coffee each. The total came to just under £40 which is ridiculous when you consider the quality, attention to detail and the service. The service was very poor. Although we were seated and served promptly, the food arrived 15 minutes before our coffee and juice. We had almost finished our food by the time it came and had to ask the staff where they were as it was taking so long. The restaurant was very quiet too; it’s not like it was busy and that’s why it was late, it was just very poorly organised. We also had to wait a long time for the bill and then for service to pay the bill. The staff just seemed so unaware and inattentive.
If it wasn’t such an expensive place, I would’ve given it 3 stars, but for the price we paid, both times, the food and service were mediocre and...
Read moreI had designs on paying a visit for a pint, but upon reading the reviews I was unsure. The whole having chips separate to burgers seems quite regressive to me. Having been to The Earlsfield the food menu is fairly reasonable and it has a walk in type feel whether you’re eating or drinking and chips are generally included with mains. The prices on the menu at Harlem seemed out of step with the sister location because of this and you’d expect them to be cheaper if anything in New Malden.
I popped by about 1815 on a Tuesday and the place was completely empty and all tables seem setup for dining. It looked like there was a well stocked bar, but it didn’t seem like walk ins were a thing and given it was empty and most other places busy on the High Street I didn’t bother.
Hopefully they can iron out what is going wrong here as it clearly isn’t working. If The Earlsfield was a successful model than why not follow it. They failed to replicate the best bits somehow and it seems like a bit of a cash grab. Perhaps deciding whether you’re a restaurant or bar would be a good start.
If they don’t sort it out soon I can’t see it lasting too long, which is a shame as New Malden is quite uninspiring, but so is Harlem it seems.
Update since my review: about 20 five star review appeared within 24 hours of this review mostly from people who haven’t only one or two reviews to the name and all similar and generic with no reference to specifics or the staff. There were only about 50 reviews in a month before then and between my review and all these new ones appearing the evening in question there was not a soul in there....
