I usually would not feel the need to post a negative review after a bad experience, but bad is an absolute understatement with this place. We came here on a whim after seeing that our first choice had been full. There were a decent amount of people eating there so we thought to give it a try. Right off the bat, we were treated with hostility. We were trying to enter the restaurant to get a table, and their host (??), the guy in the Dark Blue long sleeved shirt and Navy Reebok shoes, rudely said "Move. You're in the way," as we were trying to enter. Naturally, in a tight doorway, coming in from the cold streets, we were taking a couple of seconds to compose ourselves, plus, we were waiting to be accommodated so we didn't just barge in to the restaurant. Mind you, 90% of my friends growing up in school were Korean, so I know this isn't some cultural or dialectical difference. We're Asian too, and this is not how we are in Asia. We aren't supposed to be rude to ANYONE. His tone and conduct was meant to intimidate, and every single one of us felt the hostility. He was just really being rude as a person. Hungry and cold, we decided to just push through anyway. When we ordered, he kept telling us to move or get out of the way again when we were trying to navigate through their tight, tiny restaurant. He was very annoyed whenever we would try to ask questions. He was also very rude when he would ask us to do things like move the plate, or move ourselves. We weren't obstructing anything. It almost felt like he was just taking a piss. We didn't mind so much that the menu was on a per order basis, but the servings were tiny for the price of a whole platter everywhere else, including restaurants in Central London with servers that actually were not rude. The only reason why they're getting an extra star is because of the sweet girl with the Blonde hair and the white jumper. She was very patient, and accommodating. The rest of the night, we would get eyeballed or scolded by the guy in the dark blue shirt, which, to be honest, just made us want to finish the food and leave. We understand the stressful environment of a restaurant, but it is never right to take out your frustrations on the customers. There is literally no valid reason to ever be rude to anyone, especially during the holidays. Even when he was being super hostile to us, we still treated this guy with respect, but we could not get out of there fast enough because this was singlehandedly the WORST DINING EXPERIENCE we had ever had in the WHOLE UK. The food quality was not horrible, but it wasn't great either. You pay a lot for tiny sides, and the portions of their meat were definitely not great value for the price. They will give you one tiny coaster with sauce, and will basically tell you they can't give you more sauce. When we tried asking for more, they looked at us like lepers. They ended up giving us (a party of 5 people) one more small coaster of sauce, but not after making us feel bad for asking for something that should be included in our meal anyway. The only food item I really liked was the Spinach from the sides, but apart from that, it was unremarkable. What really dragged it down was the service of that guy who "assisted" us, but was very fortunate to have had that girl in the white shirt to help out, because she somewhat made this experience slightly bearable, but not enough. Next time, we are definitely just going to the neighbouring restaurants. Never again. This was a great way to disappoint ourselves after an already stressful night.

Average food, extremely rude and bullying staff, avoid at all cost. I went to Yami for lunch with my family, ordered £90+ worth of food, one of them being Seafood Jeongol, which normally costs £35 but there is a lunch special price of £25, so I thought I give it a try. When the Seafood Jeongol arrived, it was totally different from the photo on the menu. I asked the waitress about this but she is clearly trained to answer such question - she insisted that there is a small print on the menu saying "the food may look different", and it's my fault not to ask what seafood is actually included in the dish. I have attached the photo on the menu and the actual dish that we got. On the menu you can see octopus, prawn, calamari, crab and fish with green vegetable; in the actual dish, you will see lots of tofu, mushroom, beansprout, some fish and mussels, which is totally different from the photo. To me, it's bad enough that the photo on the menu is misleading and deceptive, the indifferent attitude from the staff makes it worst - why put a photo on the menu if it's not intending to reflect what the dish actually looks like? When I paid for the bill, they told me that there is yet another small print on the menu that says lunch special price doesn't apply to weekends. At this point I genuinely don't think their attitude deserves any service charge, so I asked them to remove it from the bill, which drops the total bill from £101 to £92. If you think my experience so far at Yami is bad enough, this is when it starts to get ridiculous - after I paid, I asked for a receipt for my own book-keeping, which the same waitress refuses to provide, saying that the receipt is part of the service, and since I refused to pay for the service charge, she refuses to print a receipt out for me. I felt that I was being bullied. After some tense argument attracting the attention of the whole restaurant, the manager of the place came along and finally provided a receipt. It took him two clicks on the computer. I am not proud of raising my voice to match the volume on the other side, but it begs the question: why does a customer who just spent £90+ in the restaurant have to raise his voice just to get a receipt for the food (and horrible service) that he paid for? Never going back again!

It was my first time in Yami and I was really looking forward to trying their bossam. However, it came in huge chunks and with no tools to cut it. I've never seen bossam being served in this manner before. The kimchi and side dishes were good but the bossam had too much fat and far too thick, even after we cut it ourselves, making it difficult to eat. We also got the jaeuk bokkum (spicy fried pork), seafood pancakes, and tofu soup. Out of the five dishes we ordered, the seafood pancakes and chicken were good and would recommend. The tofu soup also had good flavour but the texture of the tofu was odd. It was supposed to be soft but was kind of chewy and off putting. The flavour of the jaeuk bokkum was also good but the texture of the pork let it down and maybe could have been better with longer time on the pan. Overall, the flavours of everything was good and had potential to be better. But the meal definitely wasn't worth the price we paid. They were very busy as it was a Sunday so maybe they were rushed for time that day. I think the menu size is too large for the number of staff at the time we visited.

Obviously, I came here because the Korean BBQ restaurant next to it was very full.

The food was decent, but the service was terrible.

I ordered two portions of Korean BBQ beef. At first, a staff member started grilling the meat for us, but when I told her I preferred to cook it myself, she left it with me. Later, another staff member came over after seeing we had finished the beef on the grill and started grilling the next batch for us. After grilling, she asked if we wanted her to cook the other plate of beef as well, but we said we’d like to do this later. However, the beef she had already grilled ended up getting overcooked.

Then, the staff member came (again!) and started grilling the remaining plate of beef, cutting it up with scissors. I really disliked that, because I prefer cutting the beef after it’s cooked — plus, using the same scissors for both raw and cooked meat is unhygienic.

While the beef was still cooking, another staff member came over and tried to turn the meat for us. I immediately told him not to, because we had already done it ourselves (after all, we wanted to grill the meat on our own). He just put the tongs on the table with a poker face and walked away. Very rude.

All the Korean BBQ places I’ve been to let customers grill the meat themselves, and I really don’t need someone to serve us. I prefer grilling only as much as I want to eat at a time. If you cook everything for me at once, there’s no way I can finish it right away — the meat just sits on the hot grill and ends...
