Came here 5 months ago, and had occasionally visited before. It used to be so Light and cosy here. So airy and fresh. We came back yesterday evening as we hadn't been for a while. It's changed hands yet again. This time for the worst! We ordered calamari and it was undercooked and hard. Now I've has calamari before however my sister hadn't. She was unsure of how it should be, but I definitely could not stomach it. My sister had gone to discuss the atrocious calamari, the bar man was so pompous I had to intervene and demand a refund. He was arrogant and I saw that he was giving my sister a hard time. He insisted on tasting it himself only to agree that it was undercooked! All that fuss could have been avoided. Not only that but he short changed us. Can't be bothered to fight this as we are in no hurry to come back here. Really disappointing, we've had some fond memories here.

This is the Gem of the Honor Oak Pub located next to the Brokley Rice bus stop. The pub is well decorated and it has a garden too which is perfect for sunny days (if we are lucky to get them in London). The pub is kids friendly - kids menu included and kids stools accessible on request. They have a good selection of beer on draft and burgers too. The staff is friendly and helpful. I would suggest visiting this place in the evening time as they have a nice lighting set and interior atmosphere. A Take-away option is available. You can park on side roads within a walkable distance of the pub, which is great.

Went here for a Friday late afternoon lunch with the family. The pub is huge and has plenty of seating. There's a really nice living wall, which gives the place a nice character. It was pretty dead while we were there, so there wasn't much atmosphere, but I imagine it would be much better during busier periods. The food was ok, nothing to shout about, but it certainly wasn't bad for the price. Worth a visit if you're close by, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go there

So the calamari rings were cut way too thin, almost like strings and they gave less than only 10 rings, yes I counted! It was an extremely small portion put on top of a salad, but I didn’t order a salad, so why put calamari on top of a bunch of greens that had no salad dressing on it? …hmm …maybe to make the dish look bigger than it was? Maybe because they were too cheap to give actual calamari in their calamari dish? Maybe it was to save money since the bar usually goes out of business every 3 months and then sold to new ownership whom repeat the same poor ethics?

Next the beef brisket tacos were the smallest tacos that I have ever seen, It was like ridiculously too small, jokingly microscopic, absolutely pathetic and quite insulting to the customer. I wish that I had put a 50 pence coin next to these tacos and took a pic for you viewers just to show the silly small scale of these tacos …and there was only 3 of these little things. Both of these appetizers were worth less than half of their menu charged price really, we were thoroughly disappointed.

Still hungry ofcourse I ordered a hamburger …my 3rd regretted dish. The bun was hard and stale, the meat was ground chuck and ground up in a course fashion so you get that non-crushed bone fragment chunk on your teeth when biting down while chewing. It was certainly not a fine ground beef like a Great American Hamburger. The cheese wasn’t even melted on top of the patty so the cook didn’t put the cheese on the beef patty while it was still on the grill. And the cheese was a very cheap cheddar Asda version slice that had zero taste to it, besides tasting like plastic.

The burger was overcooked to a well-down state after I had specifically asked the bartender taking my order to put down a medium-rare cook on the ticket and I even went to the cook myself (which you can see the kitchen in the main dining area at the back) and I asked the cook to make sure it was done in a medium-rare and he said no problem and that he will make it sure for me.

The burger dish said that it came with a salad on the menu but it did not, and when I asked the waitress where was my salad as described on the menu she said that the menu meant the greens on top of the burger …but which should NOT be classified as a salad. It should be known that when you order a hamburger at a restaurant that it will automatically come with lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles, this is a normal hamburger yes? …or do they think a hamburger is like from McDonald’s with just a simple patty and a regular bun? So it’s very mis-leading to the customer to write a salad coming with a burger plate and all you give is something that is already expected like hamburger toppings or fixings.

And then in the end when we walked out the chef gave me a thumbs up to me as if he was my buddy looking for approval of his poorly-cooked hamburger and the rest of his sub-par wretched appetizers. This “chef” …erm cook, and this pub gets far from my approval, more like my avoidance.

I had already known that this pub has changed hands 4 or 5 times in the last year and I think I know the reason(s) why. The service is terrible, the food is even more terrible, the menu changes constantly, a new “cook” NOT chef is hired every 2 months, there is zero consistencies in management, service, food quality and standards, and it is in a poor location with nothing else around.

This pub is absolutely terrible, and I will never recommend anyone to order anything from it’s menu besides a pint of beer which you would hope that they can’t screw that one up too. Anything more you are threading at your own peril. This was such a bad experience that I am going to copy-and-paste this same review on all restaurant review websites I’m on; Yelp, OpenTable, FourSquare, Harden’s, London Eating, The Good Food Guide, Zomato/UrbanSpoon, Dine, TripAdvisor, Google and Facebook.

The food is shockingly bad here for the Price. A simple Hummus and flatbread tasted like the cheapest store bought. I buy “store bought” hummus all the time and most of the time it’s very tasty so I’m not knocking this! . But the cheaper Stores can do really disgusting watery, it doesn’t even taste like humus that’s what this was like not humus texture at all!

My granddaughter (5) who LOVES flatbread hummus & cucumber would not eat any of it, stating it tasted really weird not like at home! I tasted it myself & it was gross. The humus was watery and not hummus in my opinion. The cucumber tasted old and was limp. I totally get why my granddaughter refused to eat it after initially enthusiastically diving into it! She tried everything but said it was gross.

I had the nachos which I knew was a risk but at the price of £15 I thought it’s got to be home cooked and decent but that it was NOT! All very chemically made obviously bought in the cheapest guacamole, salsa etc worst than Aldi. I’m not being “Aldi-ist” as I shop there often, But their hummus isn’t great nor their guacamole though I would say much better than what was served at this pub!!

None of it was Home cooked as far as I could tell. I was wondering why it was so expensive and was expecting it to be top-notch but it was the worst pub food we’ve ever had (2 adults, one child) It’s probably expensive because they buy EVERYTHING in. saying that, it’s coming from an extremely cheap badly produced source! Absolutely disgusting.

Even a simple soup was gross. How can anyone get this wrong?? I will eat any soup. Again it was disgustingly watery with no flavour. How can you get a soup wrong? it says “soup of the day” on the menu. And when my grown 35-year-old daughter asked what the soup of the day was to the waitress she hadn’t a clue & then she asked the chef, it was clear they didn’t have any. we have no idea where the soup came from as it was not being made in the kitchen at the time.

Extremely expensive lunch with food that I probably wouldn’t have eaten if I hadn’t paid so much and was extremely hungry.

Our waitress was lovely. Shame she has to serve customers such bad food.

Quite pissed off to be frank. In todays financial climate, people don’t have a lot extra to be eating out and expect a decent meal (especially at these prices) but unfortunately his food is cheap pre-prepared crap brought in from the cheapest of cheap sources. Really not happy with how much they charge for such awful food. Highway robbery!! But not just that, it ruined a family get-together. We were so looking forward to a good meal together. Won’t ever go to this place again even just for a drink because I feel they are ripping...

A major disappointment.

Went for dinner with a group of four adults and two children. We've just moved to the area and were looking forward to the meal as we'd love to find a local pub with reliable food. Sadly, it was a big letdown.

The positives: a large space, good facilities for kids, friendly and well-meaning staff, great beer and wine selection, and the kids sausage and mash meal was good.

The negatives: the food was nowhere near what would be expected for the price. My £21 rib-eye was unevenly cooked, dry, with no flavor or seasoning, and bands of chewy gristle. It's hard to understand how it could have left the kitchen. The 'luxury' fish pie and cod dishes were passable, without being distinctive. The 'triple-cooked' chips were lukewarm and soggy.

The service was hit-and-miss. The beetroot side was listed as coming with a honey dressing - it didn't show up, and when asked about it the server brought a dish of olive oil. It took three requests to get the wine list.

The dining room doesn't have much character, it's more like a hotel than a charming local. A shame since it's obvious significant investment has been made.

This establishment has a lot of potential, so here's hoping it improves, particularly in the kitchen.

FOLLOW UP: I emailed this feedback to management. A response was received from someone who said management would be in touch - and then nothing further heard. Which just...
