The reviews are a bit odd - I’ve been coming for a while whenever I can get up to Notting hill - this place is a rare gem. Not all of us can eat in any cafe or bakery if we don’t have the privilege of not having to worry about our health unfortunately. I have to eat ketogenic, dairy, egg, wheat and gluten free for life due to health issues so having somewhere like this has changed my life honestly. It’s important to support independent businesses who are doing something out of the ordinary - organic, low carb, clean and anti inflammatory home made items, this is unheard of. You would think living in London we’d have more options like this but there isn’t, it’s a game changer. I’m gluten, dairy, wheat, grain and egg free and I can actually eat here, it’s a godsend. Even their almond milk is housemade - I can’t even get drinks in cafes now because they all use pre-made boxes non-dairy milks which have added ingredients and sugars that cause me issues.
Places like klear labs are so so important for those of us who have to manage our health/wellness and watch what ingredients are used in food.
The fact that they also have items that are both keto AND vegan - this is an almost impossible task so I applaud them.
My go to items are the vegan cookie (it has nuts and seeds, very dense and delicious), thumbprint cookie with low carb sugar free home made jam in the middle (!!), ginger and cacao cookie and the paleo/keto toast with housemade jam. I can’t have caffeine either so I opt for the organic nettle tea - again, this is so unique, I haven’t found anywhere else in even major cities like Paris and LA that serve options like fresh organic nettle tea instead of the usual herbal teas like chamomile etc that you can get anywhere. Highly recommended
They also bake and sell their own gluten free paleo and keto breads many of which are vegan - recommend the “sunkissed” bread loaf and the “keto rye” bread...
Read moreMyself and my friend came into this establishment to get a coffee after having purchased some empanadas from a shop on the same road. Little did we know that we should have gone somewhere else to avoid such a terrible experience. It wasn’t just one thing, it was multiple. Service was minimal at best, it was unclear who was serving and getting the coffee itself was a lengthy process, getting an iced black americano (a simple coffee) took a while After we got out coffees, we moved outside to enjoy the good weather, our food and drinks, only to be confronted by a very rude blond woman (who i can assume is a manager or owner) telling us that this was a celiac friendly establishment and that if we “touched the arms of the chairs everything needs to be cleaned”. the way in which she spoke to us was both aggressive and belittling, especially when speaking to paying customers, don’t we deserve more respect?
Having read previous reviews of this coffee shop, multiple people have had problems with this staff member in particular, as well as miscommunications about the celiac environment, as as far as we saw on the window as we where leaving it only says “gluten-free”. Gluten free and celiac are two different things. If you wish for people to be aware of this, advertise it properly. It is a businesses duty to brand and communicate themselves accurately to a customer, something that this coffee shop desperately needs to do.
I respect that a business caters to certain groups, but this needs to be a lot more clear. I would not have eaten any gluten products if i had known it was a celiac safe space, but how do you expect your customers to know this if it’s not properly communicated?
Do something about your rude staff and the lack of obvious basic customer service, although in your review replies it appears you are in denial about this member of staff and the serious detriment she is to your...
Read moreThe food is ok, albeit a bit bland taste-wise and a little overpriced. I like the selection of drinks available.
Service, in my experience, has been poor more often than not. The wait for food is consistently long, which is off-putting. As has been written in another review, the lady who owns/runs the place has the potential to be very rude. This is spoken about locally. I live nearby and would go more often if I didn't want to avoid supporting her and potentially being on the end of an unpleasant interaction. The other staff are younger and seem scared of her - understandably. I've heard her being nasty to an employee before and have noticed that employees don't seem to stay for that long. This stands out compared to a couple of cafes on the opposite side of the road where the same people have been on staff for years.
Atmosphere-wise, the place doesn't feel like it has a soul, and there are definitely orthorexic vibes to their menu/concept. I've been lectured at least once about how oat milk is bad for you when ordering a coffee [they don't offer it].
There is a note on the menu that laptops are not welcome (I can't remember exactly how it's phrased but I think it says something about being in the moment). The last time I was there, of the few people in the cafe, one person was on a laptop and someone else was on a conference call on their phone on speaker, and staff did nothing about it. One of the other customers eventually asked the lady if she could turn the volume down. I'm sure that on one hand they don't want to lose customers, but I think that you either have to be consistent about things like this or...
