La Casetta, Twickenham: A Disappointment for Italian Breakfast Lovers
I arrived at La Casetta with high hopes of enjoying a good Italian breakfast, especially considering the positive reviews from other customers. Unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired.
While La Casetta translates to "little house" in Italian, the Italian influence seems to stop at the name. The selection of pastries included a muffin (American), marmalade donuts (English style), and cafe au chocolat (French). None of these can be considered authentically Italian.
Pastries: The muffin was exactly that—just a basic muffin. The marmalade donut, on the other hand, was incredibly disappointing: hard, unappetizing, and comparable to the cheap, packaged donuts you might find at Tesco, but shockingly priced at £2.95. For the quality offered, this is simply unacceptable.
Espresso: As for the espresso, calling it "dirty water" would be more fitting. It was pale, had no crema, and was utterly flavorless. At £2.50, it was far from what you'd expect from an Italian cafe.
Cappuccino: The cappuccino, priced at £3.20, was also nothing special. For that price, I would have expected something far superior in both taste and presentation.
Overall, La Casetta was a major letdown. The food and coffee were of low quality, while the prices were outrageously high for what you receive. If you're looking for an authentic Italian breakfast, this is...
Read moreAlket and the team are fantastic! This little café reminds me of the coffee bars in Italy where I acquired my taste for a proper Italian coffee. Wherever I go, having returned to the UK, I search desperately, seeking the finest coffee. Coffee for me has come to mean espresso, but finding places that understand what that means is harder than you might think. The chains claiming that their coffee is the finest outside Italy....Just no. The volume is too great, the coffee itself....meh. So it is important to seek out places where coffee is understood. Having worked my way through Twickenham and found some passable options, I stumbled across La Casetta and popped in. Experience had told me that adding for a ristretto would get me the optimal quality and -per fortuna - Alket was on hand to produce an exceptional coffee. Since then I've been back many times and encourage anyone in search of an authentic Italian caffè to ignore the rest and make your way to this charming establishment. The café itself is immaculate, the staff friendly, smart and attentive and - as a customer - you'll be made to feel a part of the family. Top staff, Top service, Top coffee. Un vero caffè italiano in un ambiente veramente...
Read more1st time there, but a bit disappointed. Service was not good (guy was upset for some reason) We ordered "egg royal", it supposed to come with a bread muffin, but instead was a big chapata bread. Earl Grey tea was just water, they told us we need to wait around 5min for the tea to get into the water 🤔, so we wait until the tea was almost cold....and still the same, so we asked them to change it for a coffee latte. We requested the bill and the "no tea" was included, we told them, but they said they used 1 tea bag, so they have to charge us for the tea. At the end they removed the tea. Not really good experience for 1st time. We will give them...
