Taste of Raj, Twickenham, TW2 5AG. Friday 16th February 2018.
Taste of Raj, had I smiling with each bite.
Revitalising, fresh, and immensely satisfying from my meat heavy home town of Hounslow. I usually try a place a few times before leaving a review, unless extremely poor, or exceptional - such an approach did nothing for my stomach or intestines, often in need of a Lassi pro biotic kill of Bad Bacteria. I am really glad I preserved with Indian cuisine, despite some real shockers and disappointment and a nonchalant accepted norm of a few Indian restaurants in Hounslow, all using the same cash carry spices, killing flavour and peoples tastes buds along with it.
Then I found Raj, out of my immediate 1-2mile radius, in fact possibly the furthest distance of any past order I had placed on my UBER app. I was worried, as I have ordered and received cold bread, inedible from a local Deli before, this ruining the entire meal, which was much closer to home. However, the prices were appealing, and given the often experienced general displeasure, I decided it would be less heartfelt if the bill didn't weigh too heavily on the wallet and if the quality remained the same usual garbish standard (with locals giving four out of five on average thereby throwing real quality off the scale) , atleast I can get my thrill and enjoyment in other ways by getting creative on my plate at home, before disgarding - yes, my hippy positive-centric psychologist would be proud, I had given this some serious thought! 😊
To have held Raj to such low expectations was a complete disservice, and was an unfortunate consequence of "Taste of Raj" sharing the same platform with the lower quality eateries on the app in my heavy meat based town. Instead, Raj was of mouth-watering and of exceptional quality and flavour, and arriving at a temperature equivalent of a tabled diner, a true pleasure, and a joy to have faith in higher standards of restaurant food restored... and the delivery scooter.
I ordered the following vegetarian dishes from the menu:
VEGETABLE NIRAMISH - "Mixed dry vegetable cooked with herbs, butter and green chillies, garlic and coriander." £3.25
COCONUT RICE - "Fragrant pilau rice cooked with coconut and spice." £3.15
CHEESE NAN (x2) - "homemade cheese" £2.35 each.
TANDOORI PANEER TIKKA SHASHLIK(new) - large chunks of plain cheese from milk, marinated lightly in Raj tikka sauce, char-grilled flavour created in tandoor, with fresh tomatoes, green peppers, and onions. Served with mint yogurt and salad. £6.95.
PANEER (from vegetatian side dish menu, sag/spinach preparation) - Soft small paneer chunks cooked with home made cheese, fresh cream, almond and coconut. £3.25 I Highly Recommend To Try If Eating Here
Taj mint yogurt if eating meat is must try- fresh incredible flavour, very pleasing.
The portion sizes were just perfect, for both the Flavours to diffuse in the individual dishes and work together with my ordered items and provided a healthy ratio on plate, this also created positive feelings of value for money, and provided options for second helpings when plating at home. If you are eating In one sitting, I strongly recommend 3-4 ppl sharing (with larger salad) for my order, as I found half a Nan with the rich, fresh, quality ingredients sitting on top was more than filling and a small accompaniment of a salad or veg mix was ideal for I eating alone.
The coconut rice fragranced (with saffron I believe), I found also could be eaten cold and be used as a dessert to sweeten mouth. The best meal I have had in my life, not said for any effect, but as fact, why the time invested to provide comprehensive recommendation to other eaters.
Monday 19/02/18 - decided to go fully vegan, with just some rice starch grains (was craving wheat from no del. subway). RAJ was like a gift from the Gods, transforming from my itallian pizza slice and cooked I vegan to order accommodating oil free requirement. Cauliflower and potato, beautifully soft. Fresh mixed salad and plain rice. No spices as...
Read moreService, Food and Manager Awful!
We had a really bad experience in this curry house today. I called up earlier in the week to reserve a table and clearly explained we had a 2-4-1 Meerkat code which was “not a problem”
We turned up today and were served by a waiter in tracksuit bottoms, not a great start. The food had a distinct lack of meat, I don’t know if that was because they knew we were on a voucher or not but totally un acceptable.
When the bill arrived I could see they had only taken off 1 of our 4 mains. I disputed the £9.95 difference with the manager who said they only ever do 2-4-1 for 2 people despite Meerkat codes saying it’s for upto 6 people. I even went onto the app to show the manager the proof it was for “upto 6 people” He then preceded to explain his lack of margins to me and how he couldn’t run a business with more than 2 people on a 2-4-1 deal.
Don’t sign upto the offer if you can’t deliver it!
This poorly ran restaurant has avoided any further custom from me and my family for the sake of...
Read moreVery lacking in flavour. The food delivered was different to that described in the menu. Based on this experience, it was one of the worst Indian restaurants of hundreds experienced. The dishes ordered were Onion Bhaji, Tandoori Chicken, Tandoori King Prawn Pasanda, Lamb Achari, Garlic Naan and Pilau Rice. Without flavour, the Onion Bhaji was like fried cardboard. The Tandoori Chicken had little to no marinade on it. The stand-out feature was not taste but red dye. The Prawn Pasanda was incredibly sugary which made it hard to taste anything else in the dish. The Lamb Achari was the one dish that wasn't off-putting. The Pilau Rice is described in their menu as: "Fragrant basmati rice cooked with ghee & saffron, milk & cardamom". The rice delivered was chewy, steamed 'rainbow' rice with grains dyed bright green. The mint sauces were large pots of sweet, green cream. I phoned them to ask if they'd like to remedy this and they said it is what should...
