Maybe we went on a bad day, but I found the experience of visiting La Mia Mamma super disappointing, especially given how good it's meant to be. It took forever for be served at every stage of the meal, even though tables around us were being attended to frequently. It's like we were in a blind spot or something - perhaps this is why we had four different waiters serve us and why we had to constantly ask for their attention. Once we finally ordered our drinks, they took forever to come. We actually saw our beers (half pints) sitting on the counter for over 10 minutes before they were brought over, by which time they were warm. We also had to ask for water three different times. We were sitting outside on a hot day, so really felt it.
Being Sicilian I was excited to try the pasta alla norma, which I must say was pretty good once it arrived (tasty sauce, al dente), but I was surprised to find cheese melted on top with the dish - normally it's sprinkled on at the time of serving. It also didn't taste or look like the ricotta salata it's meant to be but rather like parmesan, I hope I'm wrong. In our group, my partner had the Ziti, and another couple had the orata and ortolana. Portions are pretty generous, so you should walk away full.
Pastas and pizzas cost around £15-20 while mains are between £20-30, so I'd say the former are on the pricier side while mains are more reasonable. We would have gotten a dessert but by that time we were just fed up with the service. We instead decided to ask for the bill and even that took so long that I eventually got up and went inside to request it myself. They charged us for olives, which were an item we ordered but never arrived. When I pointed this out I was met with a suspicious shrug, as if I was making it up. No apology. Receipt was reprinted and again we had to wave someone over to pay the bill.
With one main dish and a drink each the bill came to around £30 per person, including a 13% service charge, which is rich for the service we got. I'm giving three stars because my friends liked their food and my pasta was pretty good, but the service was pretty shocking for a newer place. I hear the pizzas are good but I can't say I'll be back...
Read moreMy partner and I were lucky enough to get a seat at the Bar for the soft open weekend, and what an experience we had.
Choosing the Mamma's Set Menu (I'm a picky eater) I ate everything on the starter board, and only stopped after realising I'd need room for my main course; the Chitarrina Teramana Con Polpettine (Abruzzo) is possibly the most delicious thing I've ever put in my mouth. The meat melted away like butter, the pasta was divine, and the sauce just wow.
Deserts selection; rich, but also light and refreshing, and chocolaty. We were hoping for the Tiramisu, but these made up for not getting it.
Being seated at the bar, we got a mini lesson from Chef Mamma Sara, on how not to waste left over spaghetti, and turn it into a Omelette (I will be trying this) watched the deserts being hand made, (there may have been drool from us, not the Chefs)
Portion size was very very generous, - I couldn't finish my main,
Atmosphere very chilled and relaxed, no one was trying to push us out to make room for the next cover. Child friendly but no kids food options visible on the menu (but we didn't inquire)
I've given 5 stars for everything but Service, not because it was bad but only cos they were really busy and we had to wait longer than expected for between courses, but maybe that was a good thing give the stomach time to settle.
If you get a chance, please go to La Mia Mamma, it's a little pricey, but if it means you get to experience real Italian Mamma's cooking it's...

I had an unforgettable dining experience at La Mia Mamma. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed and felt immediately at home. The atmosphere is authentic and charming — just like being in a real Italian family kitchen.
The food was simply outstanding. Every dish brought back the true flavours of Italy: the parmigiana was rich and comforting, the vitello tonnato delicate and delicious, and the fresh pasta was perfectly cooked and full of flavour. We also enjoyed beautifully prepared fish, like the orata al cartoccio, and meat dishes, including a tender carpaccio di carne.
My sister, who follows a vegetarian diet, was delighted with her main course — a perfectly cooked melanzana dish, full of flavour and clearly made with care.
What truly made the evening special was the hospitality — the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive from start to finish. The “mamme” themselves came around during the meal, offering us homemade desserts and traditional regional dishes, making the experience feel both personal and generous.
Absolutely recommended — this place is a must for anyone looking for genuine Italian cuisine and a warm,...
