A Five-Star Hungarian Indulgence!
Stepping into Lakehouse was akin to stepping into a warm embrace, the scent of slow-simmered paprika and rich, buttery dough filling the air with the promise of an evening well spent. I came in search of authenticity, of the kind of food that tells a story—what I found was a revelation.
I began with the Hortobágyi Pancakes—a dish so unassuming in name yet so grand in execution. The crepe, delicate and yielding, cradled a filling of braised meat steeped in velvety paprika sauce. Each bite was a testament to patience, to tradition, to the kind of cooking that does not seek to impress but instead, to comfort.
Then came the Chicken Paprikash, it was perfection. The chicken, tender and fused with the deep, smoky warmth of paprika, rested in a sauce so luxurious, so silken, that it could only have been the result of time well spent at the stove. Its tang a perfect counterpoint to the richness beneath. Paired with delicate dumplings, this was not mere sustenance—it was an experience. And just when I thought the meal had reached its crescendo, dessert arrived
—Hungarian doughnuts. Golden, ethereal, and they were the very embodiment of indulgence. Crisp on the outside, impossibly light within, and accompanied by a whisper of fruit preserves, they disappeared from the plate as if they had never existed. A dream, a fleeting joy—one that lingers long after the last bite. Lakehouse does not just serve food; it serves heritage, memory, and above all, heart. It is a place that understands that great cooking is not about artifice but about soul. And on that note, I will simply say: Lakehouse, I swallowed every last bite. Five stars—because after a meal like this, I am left...
Read moreWe've visited this place with my friend, we had just soups and lemonade. I had Bean goulash, which was nice presented, served with 3pcs of fluffy bread, that was enough. Tastewise was good, but I'd prefer to see some proper hungarian sasuage (csabai kolbász) in it, which also add a lot of taste. My friend had creamy garlic soup served in sourdough bun, that was very creamy and flavourfull, bread bowl is completing the dish quite well, it's also looks fancy. Homemade lemonade was nice, tangy not too sweet, but it should be on the table shortly after order, in our case it took around 10ish minutes, actually it was served shortly before soups and should've been more cold despite there was ice cubes inside we had to allow an ice to melt and stir a little to make it refreshingly cold. Overall atmosphere and decor was inviting, music wasn't my cup of tea (kind of electrohouse or house, not sure) but I'd choose something more neutral. Quite a disapointment was that they haven't got any fish, so fish dishes weren't available, one of which was fish paprikash which I was craving for, and other one (their signature dish) fish and chips with hungarian twist. Not blaming them, maybe delivery issues or they doing it well so it's gone fast like hot cakes. Anyway as I browsed trough the menu and I will go there again and more hungry to try more Hungary! As I am from Slovakia we have very similar delicious cuisine. See...
Read moreOur third but last visit. We were running late due to traffic and by mistake going to their previous location. When we realised our mistake we panicked and rushed to get there asap. When we were minutes away got a phone call and got told off for not calling them. Despite apologising, throughout our dining was quite clear that we were not welcomed and swearings in the restaurant in Hungarian didn't help the atmosphere either. They were so pissed off with us that when we paid we were reminded again that they struggled with our table and to call next time. Well they don't need to worry, won't be next time. Nobody deserves to be spoken to the way they have spoken to us.
Edits based on restaurants response We were 25 minutes late, not 45-50 and we did apologise. I did not say someone was swearing at me, there was swearing in the bar/kitchen which I have overheard and I found unprofessional. In hindsight they should have give the table to someone else as even from the response it is quite clear we were not welcome. We at least apologised, I see no apology here how they could have made some people feel. They can argue with customers as much as they want, end of the day it is not our loss. Again we are sorry for the inconvenience we have caused, won't happen again, we will just...
