We had a wonderful overnight stay at The Lion and Key.
Staff were efficient, very polite and attentive, check in was great. Attractive building from the outside and really beautiful inside. It feels as if it has been refurbished fairly recently but has been finished to a very high standard. Rooms are different shapes and sizes – ours was on the top floor. It was quite small but had everything we needed including a mini bar/fridge and a smart TV on which you can browse YouTube, BBC iPlayer etc.
The room and bathroom were both spotlessly clean. Tea/coffee making facility, room safe, clean towels and soap all provided. Air conditioning is also in the room that you can control easily. Being on the top floor meant we only had a Velux window, but it had a good blackout blind and when open you can still see the skyline over to the Olympic Park and Canary Wharf. The bed was comfortable, and we found the room/area was quiet at night.
Dinner was served in their attractive restaurant and the food was amazing. Again, great service and a bar with a great selection of beers and spirits.
Located quite close to Leyton Underground station and Leyton Orient FC, also the Olympic Park is just a couple of miles walk, so the hotel it is a good base to explore.
The one and only concern would be parking – there are only a handful of spaces available (at an extra charge) which you would need to book in advance. Street parking might be available but there are different restrictions depending on the day and traffic wardens are always active. If you are driving to this venue, research your options before booking.

Read moreMy parents stayed here recently and they couldn't have been happier, super friendly staff both in the hotel and the bar / restaurant, and a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. They even provided some treats for my sister's dog.
The food is your typical pub offering but executed with care. And they have an extensive breakfast menu ranging from a Full English to a the East London staple – the Turkish Menemen, the latter of which I...
Read moreThe food quality and pricing is ok but the customer service really needed improvement. Waitress didn't know what a lager shandy was (even tho it's a pub) and the difference between gravy and peppercorn sauce - there's a possibility it was a miscommunication between the staff or inexperienced. The place is nice although not the sort of meals that makes me want to visit...
