I have been a regular customer at Margot’s for many years now, often taking family and friends to enjoy a sweet treat and hot beverage. However, after my most recent experience, I will certainly not be returning. In all honesty, the customer service has never been particularly great. Generally, staff are unpleasant in their mannerisms and often lack the appropriate etiquette to make a customer feel welcomed/comfortable within the premises (even when they are not busy). Nonetheless, I have often excused this as the food is adequate (although not exceptional by any means) and perhaps more importantly, we should all strive to support local food businesses, especially one who attempts an adherence to traditional principles of baking.
On my last visit, quality control seems to have become completely non-existent (something which has become increasingly apparent over the past few months), as the croissant I purchased was burnt to the degree of overwhelming bitterness. More concerning is the fact that twice in a row I have ordered a plain, almond croissant only to find it filled with chocolate - even after explicitly stating that I was allergic to chocolate (FYI, I did not receive an apology after reporting the first occurrence). This is completely unacceptable and I would rather not risk my health (or that of others) for a business who clearly do not care for the safety or satisfaction of...
Read moreI've been coming to the bakery last 6 or so months, once I even turned back without getting anything since I didn't have enough time to stand in the queue. Regardless of that I still cannot recommend it highly enough.
Their almond croissants are a bit heavy but incredible, some of my other favourites are also the cinnamon swirl and chocolate babka (though be careful when asking for a slice, the size is very generous!). They do different menu every day and you always get surprised. The muffin is always a good bet though since they experiment a lot, I haven't seen my favourite one more than once (apple and cinnamon). Looking forward to their new inventions. Oh and don't forget the bread. Their signature bread is a must buy (though I still mourn the rye bread), don't get tired of it even after eating it for months. That richness of taste promised by the sourdough is exceptional.
There's usually a queue, especially since their service days reduced so expect 10-15 minutes of civilised and Covid safe queue at most times. I promise it will be worth it. Though come in the morning. Stuff sells fast and few times I went there in the afternoon I only found bread (great but not all I had hoped for!). I couldn't find fault at the staff who worked tirelessly throughout this pandemic. Be nice to them and they'll respond in kind for sure.
Again, I cannot recommend the place...
Read moreHello, I didn't realize others have said this before until I came to write this review. The lady who served me this afternoon and the other one alongside her, didn't look up when they served me, they did not say thank you, goodbye afterwards, or any other pleasantry. I find this approach really unfortunate. I like friendliness and politeness when I shop. It's such bad business when of course there are plenty of friendly places around. When I read the owner's response to a similar review that "she wouldn't dignify" it with a response, complaining it was "just mean" then I am afraid it becomes a question of arrogance. Croissant and bread quite decent, service poor. my response to owner's reply - I have read your very defensive response to my review. I am sorry about your fragile ego. I feel fine in commenting as I did as it is accurate and unbiased. You could be friendly as I was with a smile, and nice manner. Your choice to talk to each other and not look up or offer courtesies is poor business. We all have challenges in life, not just staff. Pleasantness is easy, don’t worry about scripting it. My review was not vindictive, and I present it as my personal experience today. You too have the option of silence rather than writing in a way that lacks empathy. You needn’t look for originality in writing, sincerity and pleasantness are perhaps...
