Il Piccolo Villaggio — Restaurant in London

Since we moved to the area a few years ago I wanted to try 'Il Piccolo Villaggio'. The experience was so disappointing. We arrived shortly after 18:30, were asked repeatedly if we had booked, which we hadn't, and then were given a table for two, while we were three, next to an open door to the street. There were only two other tables been served, and very few costumers arrived afterwards, none of which seemed to have booked. We ordered one pasta (child portion), one pizza, one aubergine 'alla parmigiana' and one side of spinach, plus two soft drinks - £38, which may have been acceptable if the food had been any good. Instead, it was one of the worst meal that I've had in UK. The aubergines were tasteless and mushy (an gave me a stomach ache!), the sausage on the pizza was definitely off and the spinach were frozen and badly cooked. Our son's pasta was average. I am giving two star instead of one only because the waiter, a young man, was nice and very polite. Avoid...

Just finished an excellent meal at Il Piccolo Villaggio on Monday 31st August (last day of Eat Out to Help Out deal) it was PACKED, still sitting tables at nearly 10pm. The waitresses were running to keep up with all the number of customers and they did a FANTASTIC job in very challenging circumstances. The food was unbelievable, very generous portions and extremely fresh and tasty, every dish we had was better than the last, finishing with the Tiramisu which was one of the best I’ve ever had. Of course it was phenomenal value with the 50% off deal but with the portion size and quality the price is very good. We didn’t know it was BYOB but we’ll know next time. What a shame, I have previously enjoyed the food at this restaurant but a poor experience this week. Let's start with the customer service. On arrival my friends and I were told that we hadn't booked, when I showed the confirmation email the waiter said we had not been added to the list. We were then offered a cramped table usually seating 2, we were 3. No real apology. The food was pretty average and unfortunately my friend who ate a tuna salad had a stomach upset that night. I emailed Marina at the restaurant to let her know. It may not have been the salad but I thought Marina may be concerned about the hygiene at the restaurant. No reply We will not return.

PS Marina has been in touch and offered compensation, no acknowledgment that something may have been wrong with the food. My conclusion...
