I came to Margot Clapham this morning for a first visit.
All places in Clapham typically allow you to use your laptop, so my partner and I arrived early and ordered a round of coffees before going for food we informed the waiter.
As the place wasn’t busy, we I took my time to work in between ( but I felt the pressure from the staff rushing us to order) My partner left briefly to take a private phone call. I thought it was fine to work in my laptop while waiting, especially since the manager of the place was also in the FOH area, working on his laptop.
No one came to explain any policy regarding laptop use or how long we could stay. For context, I stayed for about an hour, and we each had two coffees each.
Then, suddenly, a male waiter came to my table. He didn’t even ask politely, he simply said I had to move because a larger group had a reservation. I’ve never seen a place fail to communicate that a table was reserved and that we would need to leave at the booking time. You don’t order people to move tables, you pre-organize your reservation tables and space.
There were empty tables elsewhere that could have been offered, but I was singled out. I didn’t even have the chance to try the food, as this mistreatment made me decide to leave.
I was the only person who appeared to be a foreigner, while everyone else around was English. I felt targeted and discriminated against. Surprisingly, there are other reviews from this place reporting similar experiences, which strongly suggests this is a matter that should be investigated.
It’s especially sad because my best friend is one of the Daisy Green Collection chefs, and I love the concept, but the FOH staff at Clapham left a bitter taste. I want to clarify that the female staff were amazing, I am referring specifically to the male...
Read moreExtremely interesting experience. Usual Service as expected from a 5 Star Restaurant, Only Better! Absolutely outstanding service, very attentive and friendly Ready to explain the menu and interesting drink selection.
Now Im a very fussy eater, So I tend to notice when things arent quite correct, Nothing negative to say here, But things aren’t as they seem.
I had the Bacon & Egg Hash browns. To be honest I expected it like a greasy spoons type meal. That was not the case....."Don’t Expect It" Its more like a Tapas dish, very small, but bursting with flavour! The hash brown is more like a Rosti Potato and forgive me for saying, very similar to what Dairy Clapham Pavement (Robin Gill) used to make before they closed down (very sadly) So If you loved Dairy - It’s a winner! The bacon is a bit small little chunks of crunchy dust - its lovely but there’s not enough! And the egg is just Weird Weird Weird!! Bright Orange Paste Tastes amazing, but difficult to say its egg.
I was on the Mocktails due to comp champagne from them the day before! As they were new to open they were giving out free champers the day before....It felt rude not to sample it ;-)
Wildflower & Elderflower is awesome very fruity floral and sweet, went down a treat.
Desert again sound of the Weirdness not Wickedness. Burnt Lemon Meringue Pie Thick crunchy slices of ice-cream cone stuff, lots of lemon gel/cream & sweet creamy/silky meringue
I personally found the lemon a bit too Tart/Sharpe and strangely salty. I refused to send it back, however they did offer a replacement of Mango and a refund on my bill. I hate Mango, so I gave it to the table next to me and the two girls demolished it and said it was fantastic!!
My partner had the bread, Broccoli and the other thing with balls...
Read moreWas looking forward to trying Margot Green based on all the positive reviews, but unfortunately we did not have a good experience. What I will say firstly is that the food seems grossly overpriced for what it is, especially compared to other (and in my opinion, better) brunch spots in Clapham. But I digress.
The moment we sat down, one of the waiters (not sure of his name, young-ish guy) immediately joined our table, stating that he wanted a break from serving. He proceeded to sit with us for a good 5 minutes making conversation, which we engaged in, but ultimately we just wanted to look at the menu and talk amongst ourselves. It was really quite odd and did not set a good tone for the meal.
After we’d finished, whilst waiting for the bill, another waiter came up and started commenting on the lip gloss my friend was holding. We sat there trying not to engage, but he didn’t seem to get the hint and again carried on talking despite us clearly being in a conversation of our own.
As 3 young girls, the behaviour of these waiters made us feel really quite uncomfortable. It was not professional at all, and alongside the food not being good value for money, I’m afraid to say that we will not...
