I have taken a load of kids there after a birthday party and everyone had a good time. Clean restaurant, nice enough staff and the kids liked the noodles and duck pancakes. I don't remember what I ate but that wasn't top of my priorities at the time. However we ordered delivery last night and it was average at best. I see lots of good reviews on here so many we ordered badly or the dishes we ordered don't travel well but I can't see us trying again. The fact that in the same area there are restaurants serving food from all over the world to such an incredibly high standard makes the averageness of May's stand out all the more.
If there is a May, I of course do not blame her. They are just giving us what we have demanded historically from Chinese restaurants. No matter which of the many varied and diverse regions the chefs or proprietors are from we only ask for the same six dishes. Everyone loves...
Read moreIt was my first time to try few dishes in this restaurant as a take away. I ordered sweet and sour pork, beef with ginger and spring onion and chicken with Malaysian style curry. I opened them all at home and the first thing I could see on top was full half cooked onion as a volume expander to show the dish is full. First sweet and sour pork, it seems the pork stayed in the fridge for quite sometimes that lost flavour and became so showy that requires a jaw movement for a while. The beef and ginger over powered by so much onion that the flavour lost in space. And finally the chicken curry Malaysian style. I have to say I am lost in translation, because it needs its own dictionary I just wonder who suggested to name it this way🤔 all I could think of a name : Chicken with lots of onions. First...
Read moreFood isn't as greasy and MSG-packed as other Chinese, but the overall experience is no more than average. The ambiance is quiet and very dimly lit but fails to create anything of an atmosphere. Service is quite slow and lacks a welcoming vibe. Chicken and sweetcorn soup was good but the spring rolls, despite being a decent size, were somewhat lightweight. The mains lacked anything to distinguish them from other places - chicken & cashew nuts were unexpectedly sweet, beancurd and mixed veg managed to be bland and too salty, and the chicken curry was ok. Egg fried rice is more sticky than we expected. Not much choice for chinese in Chiswick apart from...
