When we arrived, we were greeted with a cosy setting, complete with wooden beams and rustic decor, which made it feel like a home away from home. As we settled in, we appreciated the variety of drink options available. The beer selection featured local brews, which were refreshing and complemented our meals nicely. My partner's wine was also of good quality, adding to our overall enjoyment.

For lunch, the menu offered a tempting array of classic pub fare. The steak and chips were lovely; they were cooked exactly to my preference, and the chips were crispy and golden. The burger was equally as nice. Although the patty wasn't grilled, the beef burger itself was juicy and flavorful. The toppings were fresh, and the bun was just the right amount of soft and sturdy.

One aspect that added to our experience was the attentive service. The staff were friendly and quick to assist, making sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. While ordering at the bar can be a minor inconvenience, it provided the opportunity to review the full menu and make our choices at our own pace.

Absolutely appalling service from the manager, Angelo, this evening. The music was blaring and rather too loud but even accounting for that, the manager displayed an inability to listen to what we were saying. We had pre-booked and paid for a festive meal at an allocated time. We used the booking facility on the website and the manager had a record of our booking. Rather than seeking to resolve the matter, he repeatedly shouted over me. He first claimed that we were at fault for not booking at least five days in advance. He then claimed that we needed to select our precisely selected individual meals in advance and before attending the premises, in disregard for the fact that there was no facility on the website to do so. He appeared reluctant to refund the money that I had paid for the meal even though it was the company that had failed to perform its side of the contract that it had entered into. He did nothing to placate the situation and made matters worse by shouting, even when I suggested that we talk outside where it was unaffected by the extremely loud pre-recorded music inside. Rather than discussing the position, he said he was too busy and simply walked off. It is particularly irritating because if we had not met our side of the contract, the firm would have kept all of our money. Being welcomed in the morning by the chef 👨‍🍳 is absolutely first class and not only that he knows exactly what me and my family want. Our little one grew up in this pub and loves his food.

Packhorse & Talbot has truly become a special place for me and my family. Every visit feels like coming home – the atmosphere is welcoming, relaxed, and filled with genuine warmth.

The food is consistently delicious, with a menu that offers something for everyone, whether you're after a comforting classic or something a little different. Every dish is clearly made with care, and the quality never disappoints.

But what really sets Packhorse & Talbot apart is the incredible team. Every single member of staff goes out of their way to make our experience unforgettable. They are always kind, attentive, and thoughtful – it's clear they genuinely care about their customers. It's rare to find a place where you are greeted like old friends each time you walk through the door.
