My partner and I recently dined here. I have no words for how much of a complete diabolical shambles our evening was. We booked over a month in advance for our two year anniversary. We arrived on time, we're sat on a table next to loud families away from the aesthetic area you'd think they would of sat us but instead we were seated next to the door overlooking the bar. It felt like a table for drinks, not romantic and nothing to write home about. There were plenty of tables they could have sat us on but instead they chose a round corner table where others were there to drink? Honestly felt like I was in the drinking area of the restaurant. I let this go but then in the 2 plus hours we were there, we received extremely poor service, the worst I've ever experienced. We waited 20 minutes to even be acknowledged for drinks. We waited half an hour for our starter and then one hour 30 minutes for our main. The icing on the cake was the reason we were informed our order took this amount of time was the table of 12 people who only arrived less than 30 minutes before we got our main they wanted to prioritise to ensure their table were seen to and provided their food first and we know this because they told us.
Food was below standard. I'm half Turkish and there's nothing authentic about the food. The fondue was basically melted cheese, literally cheese and nothing else. My main of plant based meat was dry and honestly tasted like it had just been rushed.
Tables were emptied way before us and people who arrived after had left whilst we just sat there. We weren't offered water at any time despite giving other tables, we weren't asked if we wanted any drinks or refills until the end when we got our main and all of a sudden it was questions around whether we wanted anything else. This restaurant ruined our anniversary of what should have been a nice meal and a few drinks, maybe a desert but by this point we just wanted to leave and had no intention of waiting for anything else because by this point the restaurant had already ruined our whole experience. Tables had leftover plates for atleast 30 minutes before being cleaned all around us. Staff were dismissive and the service shocking. If staff figured that a table of 12 who arrived over an hour into our dining should be paid more attention to and given all their orders first, perhaps on the basis of 'spending more money' or whatever reason, is a terrible way of encouraging customers to return and frankly, suggests that megans only cares about how much money you might spend than reputation.
We were offered a small discount which was a heroes discount...which I could of got anyway as a nhs staff member. Honestly I'm offended this restaurant treats customers like this and the cherry on the cake, the manager did not even acknowledge us leaving a waitress to apologise and ignored us staring down his phone when we left not even having the curtesy of saying goodbye.
I have no intention of eating at any of your establishments again and I will be advising others to avoid. Bad food and bad service.
The only reason I give 1 star is for vegetarian/vegan options. For ruining our anniversary this restaurant doesn't even deserve that. I don't consider this a one off. Usually I give the benefit of the doubt but nothing can be THIS bad. I can only assume your other branches are exactly the same, only good feature is the asthetics. The restaurant was not busy enough to use that as any excuse to treat paying customers the way we were.
Just avoid at all costs if you actually want decent food and above all service. Don't believe the amazing reviews. That's...
Read moreI have been coming to this Megan’s branch on and off for a few years as it’s super close to my flat and a great place to work. During and immediately after Covid it was amazing - great food, including lovely deli-style lunch options, great service, great management. It then got pretty bad, with flavourless dishes cooked poorly and extremely slow service. It has more recently picked up again, which is fab, although today I had been a bit disappointed. The bacon Megan’s uses these days is so thick cut and there’s so much fat it’s really not appetising to look at and doesn’t have much flavour, and on this occasion there was so little meat (pretty much solely fat) that I actually couldn’t eat it! Being served a dish that you need to use a knife and fork for on a wonky metal tray with paper under the food also felt very canteen-like - the paper inevitably gets broken up and in your food and the tray makes the dish look cheap so I hope they go back to using plates! I was similarly disappointed to find that they were out of decaf coffee today and also now only have one dairy free cake option (the old pumpkin and coconut loaf was AMAZING but that has gone). Finally, this branch is always insanely hot inside so I really hope they can do something about this, as well as please fix the dead plug socket at the table behind the entrance that hasn’t worked for literally years…! However, despite these niggles I’m still giving four stars because while I was still there a manager saw my review and came over to chat about the feedback. I feel genuinely confident they will take it on board and are committed to getting the branch back up to the standard it...
Read moreWe chose to have a meal at Megan's after our small Civil Ceremony at Islington Town Hall. We had scoped it out the previous week with a few Happy Hour drinks and a sharing platter on the terrace, in a lovely early evening atmosphere, and we knew that we had made the right choice. Unfortunately we were a smaller group than originally planned, but the guys at Megan's made us feel so special all evening. We loaded up on Happy Hour drinks, whilst the waiting staff and managers ensured we had everything that we needed. One of our party had a Nut Allergy which also includes certain fruits, so a manager took his order separately to advise on ingredients and potential allergens. This was a lovely touch, as he often decides against ordering certain dishes because of a lack of information over the ingredients.
My Wife & I are both Vegan, and Megan's has an extensive selection of Vegan friendly dishes, easily identified by the smart filter system on the digital menu. We asked all of our friends to also select Vegan dishes, and everyone was more than happy with the variety on offer. Between various kebabs, Falafel, quinoa bowls, cauliflower sides, fries, za'atar Potatoes, flatbreads and plenty of hummus, we were all contentedly stuffed!
I'm only sad that we have only just discovered Megan's in the new-ish Islington Square development, but we will be using it frequently from now on. They are famously dog friendly, which is of great delight to our neighbour who has struggled to find many dog friendly eateries in the entire Islington area. We will certainly return here with her in the future and can see it being one of our...
