I’ve never felt so blatantly discriminated against in a restaurant before. One staff member initially seated us, but then we were repeatedly approached by both kitchen and front-of-house staff with cold, aggressive behavior—claiming we couldn’t sit there, despite us being shown to the table by their own colleague.

If they believed a mistake had been made with the seating arrangement, they could have simply apologized and handled it professionally. They could have explained the situation or told us—politely—that they didn’t have enough space. Instead, we were treated like we’d done something wrong.

What made it worse was how obvious the difference in treatment was: the kitchen staff glared at us the entire time, refused to engage respectfully, and even shushed me when I asked a question politely. Moments later, I watched the same person turn and warmly chat with white customers at the next table like it was nothing. The contrast was undeniable. It felt like they simply didn’t want us there—unless we were white or Korean.

Let me be clear: that stare wasn’t confusion or stress. It was pure hostility. And it didn’t stop until we got up and left. The message was obvious—they didn’t want us there, and they made sure we felt it.

If this is how they treat non-white guests, they need to take a hard look at their values. Racism doesn’t get a pass just because it’s subtle—or baked into how a place operates. This was not just uncomfortable, it was...

So went to have Korean food for dinner on saturday evening but didn't realise how busy some restaurants were on the high street of New Malden. Didn't know that I should have made a reservation beforehand. So we tried around 3 different restaurants with no luck but went into Palace and were seated immediately. And it was pretty full in there as well so that was great. I got the Bimibap though it's not called that on the menu, I think it's called mixed vegetables with rice and you can choose whether to add minced beef or chicken. It cost £8.50 and was really yummy, your basic bog standard bimibap. I think they added some seaweed as well which I've never seen before. Tasted great. My sister got the Beef-Rib Soup with Rice which cost £8. I tried some. It was AMAZING! I would definitely go back just for the soup. It tasted so good! Really hearty and warming. Service was fast. They do add a 10% service charge. Had a...

I love the food at Midam and have been many times. I booked a table for 5 on Saturday and the experience was not good. We shared some starters and we each ordered a main course. Two of the main courses arrived very soon, the rest took more than 1 hour to arrive, but all at different times, after asking the staff a number of times where the food was. Really ruined the experience as the point of going out is to eat together. The place was not very busy but I really felt that as Korean customers arrived after us, they were given priority and our food was forgotten about. Really disappointed, food was excellent when it arrived but we sat down at 8.15 and the last main course arrived by 10pm after much asking. No one was interested in clearing the starter plates from the table either and we ended up clearing the table and moving plates away ourselves. I know it is not fine dining but there has to be a...

overall: wonderful hearty warm meal. you know it’s authentic when they give you bachans (korean side dishes) for free. would urge you to try something not offered in london korean restaurants. dried seaweed rolls 🍚: i miss this dish so much, i’ve only saw this once in london korean restaurants. it’s simple, basic & delicious. seafood pancake 🦑: another one of my go-to. above average & generous portion. but would like it crispier & with a bit more seafood. beef ribs & outer leaves of spicy soup 🍲: decided to pick something that i’ve never seen in london korean restaurants & i’m glad i did so. the soup is soybean paste based hence filled with umami flavours, with a hint of spice aftertaste. the vegetables also adds savouriness to the soup. there’s 2 pieces of beef short ribs that are so tender that it slides of the bone effortlessly. wish they offer this in london.

It is an authentic Korean restaurant conveniently located. The menu was good with a big selection covering Korean BBQ, stew and a la carte. The food, however, was quantity over quality. Had a seafood pancake that was massive but had only few small pieces of squid and no other seafood. The seafood stew had only shell fish (crab, shrimps and mussels) and half of the stew was mostly bean sprout. The soup was very good -- should had added noodles to it. The BBQ was tasty but the experience disappointing. Initially asked if we could cook the BBQ on the table, but were served to us already cooked. The rice cake in chili was good and the sauce was just right amount and not over powering. The service was standard -- the staff won't provide explanation and we definitely need to ask for options (e.g. Adding extra noodle, how BBQ is served)

There aren’t loads of lunch set options during the day, but the flavour and portion sizes really stand out. The beef short ribs were rich and tender, and the bits of tendon still attached to the bone had a great texture and were full of flavour. The kimchi tofu soup had that perfect mix of spicy, salty and tangy — totally moreish. The black bean noodles had that classic Korean taste, proper traditional. The spicy stir-fried squid had a great kick and nice wok hei, though the squid itself could’ve done with a bit more marinating. The spicy chicken was full of flavour too, but the meat wasn’t quite as tender as it could’ve been, and the sauce was a bit on the watery side. With all the complimentary Korean side dishes thrown in, it was more than enough for four adults — we were absolutely stuffed!
